Ok I wanted to ask all of you what you use to spray the Createx Pearls. I have a Master brush with a .3mm and so far I have to reduce the pearls a far amount to get consistant flow. But its a fine line between to thick and splotchy versus to thin and loosing some adhesion when doing finer detail. Is there a magic percentage to reduce or should I step up in nozzle size? Also what pressures do you typically run. I can get it to work good most of the time but also struggle the most with these paints versus the others.

Thanks for any advice.

You can use a larger tip size for the easiest solution. I have found though that naturally the pearls are tuff to spray because of the materials they are made from. Another thing is to be extra sure you have them shook up good. If you get chunks of pearl it will foul your tip quick. Hope it helps.

Thanks guys. I had read issues with pearls and small nozzles before I ever got started but figured I would see how it went with this brush. I think you hit it right on Matt by not shaking it up good this last time because I was getting to 'comfortable' already and swapping through colors quickly. I think I was just lucky so far in my very limited experience but I see it could be a headache down the road. I'm going to just order another brush with a .5mm tip. I even notice I have reduce opaques by about 20% in order to get in close with the pressure backed down a little so the larger tip should help there as well.

Thanks again Matt and Kodiak for the help... Definitely shortens the learning curve with this stuff.

I use the Createx and a Iwata HP...fine nozzle. I do not have to reduce my pearls at all. If I get any spitting, I thoroughly clean out the nozzle and I'm fine.

What kind of pressure do you run Paul? It will be a few days before I can get back into the garage to play around more with it. It would be nice not to thin so much when I want a more defined line I can do so with out a billion passes. Thanks!

Createx Colors work best when using a "medium" sized airbrush needle and tip. If you are using a
"fine" needle and tip, you may have to dilute the colors slightly with Airbrush Extender or water.
Opaque, Pearlized, and Iridescent Colors tend to be thicker due to the additional solids needed for
proper finish. Adjust color accordingly.

Is there more than one Paul in here??

I run 20 psi and my metallics or pearls usually are not used for detail work, but rather coverage areas such as bellies, sides or through mesh. A fine tip at 20 psi works just fine for me...I also sometimes mix pearls in with opaques...no problems here. No reducing either, that takes too much time and I don't have the patience to recoat over and over again.

Ya, writing Paul was much shorter than your user name so I went with that..

I'll have to play more the next time I get days off. I wouldn't mind getting another brush just to see the difference. It looks like everyone has their preference so I'm sure I will find my niche soon enough.

Thanks again for the advice and help guys. I have some finished stuff I hope to get pics and posted soon.

Targa01,

Make sure you shake the bottles well, and an absolute must IMHO is to stretch a hunk of nylon over the bottle to filter and boogers out so the don't end up in the brush. I use a small needle and I reduce my pearls and metallics over 50% sometimes with a home brew reducer....no problems. Put some tape on the new bottle, write on it how much it has to be reduced to produce good results and go for it. i have noticed each bottle can be a little different. I shoot at about 25-27 psi.
One last note is you will save some headaches going with a better brand of pearl/metallic than createx. Other brands have much finer pigments and ratios that allow them to be reduced much better without blotching up.
Good luck,

MS
