| In case your wondering the ice was almost out of Pleasent Creek on Tuesday at noon. There was still some large areas of ice out in the lake. I would guess the lake will be free of ice by Saturday. The boat landings are open but the docks are not yet in. |

| Any decent Musky water near the Southern side of Des Moines? I have some family down there and have debated on dragging my rig down from the Twin Cities. |

Brad - when you say "decent" you mean you might actually catch one?? LOL Big Creek on the North side of DSM has muskies....hard to come by though. Three mile lake about 75 minutes south also has them. I wouldn't classify either lake as being decent though......

| Let me clarify: Able to fish for them. I live in Metro MN and know I am spoiled, I just want to make my bi-annual trips to family land less boring. |

| Wkee- Had the boat fired up in the driveway last night and was casting pounders across the street. Had the neighbors dog bite three times but took the bait coming at me... No solid hookset... |

Location: Ames, Iowa | I live in Ames. I find it better to drive 3 hours to southern minnesota or more hours further north than spend many hours on Iowa lakes looking for fish. That seems especially true now that I've heard what's happened to the population of muskies on West Okoboji. |

Location: Waukee, IA | Maybe you should try the spring dawgs....little bit smaller, easier for the dogfish to get in their mouth. |

| there is a belief that many of the fish went down stream last year due to high water. |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Wasn't just last year but an ongoing problem with the IGL's and others around the state....Judging by our chapter fish numbers from 2011 I have to say they are true....Only 20 registered from West in 2011, normal years many members have that alone....DNR has admitted it's a problem and hopefully a fix will be in place by fall thanks to the asian carp....
Also from Iowa, Okoboji area....

Location: Ames, Iowa | Do you mean Iowans are dumb, or do you mean the Iowa DNR as a whole is dumb? Or do mean something else? |

| Don't get too worked up. I live in Carroll and fish all these God forsaken puddles from ice out to ice up. I fished hundreds of hours in Iowa last year. I fished 4 days in MN and 4 hours in WI. I caught 5 times as many fish in my time out of state as my countless hours in state. Most of that can probably be attributed to my sucking at fishing, but I like to think a little of it has to do with the water my boat is floating on.

Location: Plymouth IA | i am in Iowa now grew up in Cass Lake and was last in Alexandria MN. Live rual near Clear Lake and have found it to be a good Muskie lake. the last 2 years have even caught muskies of of public docks. It is nice to go visit family in MN and there is great muskie and perch fishing there but there is pretty darn good muskie fishing in Clear Lake IA. It has been a nice surprise haveing to move to Iowa because my job in MN was eliminated. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | Misterperch- Clear Lake is a pretty nice town to live in and raise kids in. Carroll is just as good too. Deceiver, just like you I fish outta my boat in Mn more than Iowa. About the only fishing I have any success at in Iowa is the crappie bite from shore in the spring or wading the rivers for smallies. I grew up in Atlantic and spent time fishing at Anita, but haven't been there in years. Longville area gets most of my attention now. When I retire in 7, its Leech from May-October, and Ames from November-April. |

Location: Plymouth IA | djwilliams -- Its nice around here and Clear Lake has fish but i do miss up-north. When i was in high school had a friend who's family had there boat on Steamboat bay the far end of Leech from Longville. What you favorite way to fish muskies? I prefer casting but find Muskies trolling on Clear Lake for Walleyes. kind of funny that they hit such small lures. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | I am becoming more and more a topwater guy- Rumblers, Top Raider, and Jackpots get a lot of throws. Rumbler has been a good bait for big fish. Lotta muskies caught by walleye fisherman on Leech. #*^@ Norm Swanson from Fargo catches a couple each year trolling spinners for eyes. That's about the only way he fishes. And they are nice ones. "Smallmouth" colored baits are fish catchers on Leech. |

Location: Plymouth IA | Topwater is fun any time you have a fish blast one it gets your attention. When i was a kid that was the only way i remember my uncle fishing muskies on Cass. |
