Just wondering what some of you have done in the way of replacement?

It's a 96 Lund Pro V and I want to change the entire system, (am/fm/cassette) to AM/FM/CD with Ipod capability. 2.... and possibly 4 speakers.

How far have some of you gone, and how much will an amp drain the batteries??
I want this thing to rock.

Which brands are highly recommended?
Thanks for your help in advance.

I put in a Clarion waterproof head unit...now it's the CMD7 I think....4 Alpine marine 6.5" speakers and no amp is needed..it rocks the Ranger pretty good! Sirius equipped so the Hair Nation is rockin' .....the face of mine is exposed and i've had it 4 yrs i think in some torrential downpours and it hasn't missed a beat...mine runs off the starting battery and I've never had any issues with it draining the battery

get the head unit for about $200 and the speakers for about $70 a pair...you are looking at 500-600 installed most likely

Be sure to check out Fusion stereos. Very good sound and the Ipod/Iphone dock is very nice feature.

If you do put an amp in your boat, make sure to not wire it to your starting battery. Don't want to get stuck on the water with no power. I put some Polk Audio speakers in my boat and love them. Just make sure that whatever speakers you get are marine certified. It wouldn't hurt to get some speaker baffles either. I highly recommend Crutchfield for their great selection and prices, as well as their unmatched customer support

Polk audio car speakers are all rated for marine use if that helps. I always use crutchfield because you get the BEST customer service and free lifetime support. If you get their catalogs, they often have discounts not available to those who do not get the catalog. Sign up, it is free.

4 speakers should be plenty, and I would not think that you would need an amp. I design and install custom stereos if you want feel free to send me a PM. I know Decatur is quite the drive, but I will help you with the install if you want to bring it down.

I have a alpine deck and 4 alpine marine speakers, 8", in my 620, and its plenty loud enough! Ran me about $1000 installed. No amp needed in my opinion.

I would go with PYLE marine audio equipment. Check Nextag and Amazon for your best prices. I would go with an amp and get the speakers to match the watts. 4 speakers at 200 watts per speaker and you will put everyone to shame. Your biggest cost will be for the sirius compatible radio. With the amp, you will not only "Rock" but you will feel the thump. No problem rocking in my rig at WOT.

Always hook all your accessories to the cranking battery. You will also have to do some fuse upgrading for your new toy. If you are worried about draining your cranking battery, store a cheap set of jumper wires in your boat and it wont be a problem. I have never had the cranking battery drain all the way down even with the amp on all day long.
