I know this question has been asked before, as I did a search and found some info already, but I am hoping to approach this from a bit of a different angle.
1. When is burning bucktails a good tenchinque to use. Specifically I am heading to LOTW in July and I am wondering if I should invest in a rod a reel specifically to do this. If i will not need a combo for this purpose I will not bother getting one.
2. As a lefty what is the best reel for durning buctails. I would like a combo that makes burning bucktails something that is not incredibly painfull. For example I know that a could burn a buctail with a calcutta, but would be willing purchase an Avet if it would make the task easier.

Thanks for your help
Greg

1. imo, it seems to work best when I'm getting a lot of follows but no bites.
2. It's all personal preference. Try what you have, and if you don't like it, try something else.

I defintely will have to get out there and try it as this year I plan on casting a lot more. I was just hoping to get some input from people, especially those southpaws on the board, about what the best reel is for burning bucktails.

You absolutely do not need to burn a bucktail on LOTW. You can if you want to, but it's certainly not a requirement and not the only way to catch fish.

i never understood "burnign bucktails". I usually NEVER do. I work them at different speeds alot but wouldn't consider "burning them". i don't think it matters to be honest. I just go to a smaller blade when i want to speed up the presentation. Any reel i have works just fine.

Buddy kicked my butt one year on LOW, we both threw Dbl 10's alot and his Saltist reeled em in alot faster. Not burning- just faster. BUT was it the speed? ? He got a few right behind where I had just casted..? I do know sometimes the only thing to get em to eat on the 8 seems to be speed.
