| Anyone ever have issues with a powerdrive being difficult to deploy? It seems to be binding when it is fully seated, and requires alot of effort (wiggling side to side) to get it out. Any ideas?
Thanks

| Yup.... Pretty common thing. One of many reasons I upped to a Terrova... |

Location: Savage, MN | I have the same problem with a powerdrive v2. I spoke with a minnkota rep last week and he said that with time it should loosen up. He did say that the best way to "assist" the issue would to coat the motor shaft with a lubricant of some kind. He said that armoral is a good option. I have also heard of people sanding the shaft down a little but I dont care to do that. I would also like to hear other peoples ideas to correct. |

| I have tried using various lubricants, but it hasn't really helped. With it being wet all the time, it seems to wash off. I thought about sanding down the shaft too, but was reluctant to do it.
Thanks

Location: Norway | What I do on my PD2, cept for some wd40, is to push down on the release button, as I am giving someone CPR. When I push it hard once, it "rockets" out, just lift the shaft and it slides down.

| I have copied and pasted this from my website. I have a page on my site i use a kinda a blog. This has seriously worked on every PD motor I have tried it on.
"Over the years I have read many threads on forums about people having difficulties with deploying their Minn Kota Powerdrive trolling motor.I have had my PD for almost 5 years now, and to be truthful I also had problems at first with getting the motor out of the stored position. Then I figured out the trick to make deploying the unit much easier.
These are the steps I take to deploy the motor.
Grab the handle to unlock the unit with one hand, and grab the motor shaft with the other hand.
Pull the handle that unlocks the motor and maintain the "pull" pressure (for lack of better wording).
At the same time you are pulling, use the other hand that is on the motor shaft and push the motor forward.
By now the motor should be free from its resting cradle.Allow the motor to fully deploy and lock it into place.
The real important part is maintaining the "pull" pressure. I have seen many people pull the lock handle enough to get the motor past the locking collar but then relieve their pressure and continue to fight the motor. Hold the pressure until the motor is free from the cradle.
That tip has worked on every PD unit I have tried it on, so quit kicking and slamming your trolling motor and give my tip a try. Also, I have never used any lubricant on the motor shaft.I have heard of people doing that, and I never have.Once I learned my tip I never had any reason to try that. One exception to the lubricant comment would be when fishing in very cold weather, in which case the lubricant can slow the formation of ice on the motor shaft."

You kinda have to learn how to deploy it... When I had a PD I would put one had on the lever and the other on the top head of the motor applying pressure. You have to do it all in one motion, kind of... I have watched my buddies struggle to put it down, but my wife never had any problems once she learned the tricks...
Also there are all kinds of things you can put on the shaft portion, all will help somewhat...

| Its not the trolling motor...its the way you are trying to deploy it.
Press straight out, not DOWN and out on the trolling motor head...couldn't be easier. |

just want to say thanks for the tip about using tire shine on the shaft of the trolling motor. I struggled with mine for years and 1 application of tire shine and it moves so free it's unbelievable. I don't know how long it will last, but worth putting it on every week if need be.
thanks again |

| I tried WD40, tire shine, wiggling every direction, etc - I finally separated my shoulder. Someone finally gave me the tip to use Plumbers Grease. You can find it at any Home Depot. Still hard to do and you have to re-apply often but it made it about 50% easier to deploy.
Honestly, how could anything be so poorly engineered - next motor will be a Terrova (while I still have one good shoulder). |

+1
I've watched guys wrestle with mine up in the front until I run up there and deploy it with zero effort. Find the angle and then fish more so you remember it. |

| Try Reel Majic. It stays on a long time and works well. |

I would disagree with this statemnt. If the motor is that finnicky that many of its owners encounter difficultites deploying it than its a design issue. Deploying the motor should be an intuitive process that does not require much thought. No one ever complains about the Terrova, Vantage, Fortrex etc... deploying beacuse the tollorance is differnt and no thought is needed. You just drop the motor...
When is Tonka Ice out???
