I was planning on buying A lowrance gen 2 until I went to the fish expo today and heard Greg Fitch according to him humminbird is easier to use I was looking at the 798,898.998 series at the website, am I misunderstanding something it appears they come with either side imaging or down imaging but not both and lowrance does come wirh both so am I missing something.
Another question I have is the current humminbird as fast as the gen 2

I don't know where you heard that 'Birds don't have SI and DI. The Side Imaging units do come with DI as well. However, the DI do not have SI. The 8,9, and 1198's all have both SI and DI. The 8,9 and 1158 DI only have Down Imaging.

looking for an 1198... you feel you got a good deal ? I have heard of them before from other anglers, they say that they have great service but I have not bought from them yet...

Yeah I checked reviews from a ton of places, just because there are so many scams out there today... But so far they have been great... I had to verify the address on my Credit Card and they were really easy to work with... and so far they have got everything shipped in one day and had a ton of stuff in stock... Shipping was alittle high but prices were still cheaper than some other sites... so far so good... hope to have everything by the end of the week...

After all my issues with Lowrance Transducers several years ago and the poor customer service I got an 858 c SI. It is an awesome unit, so much so that I recently purchased an 1198 and will move the 858 to my bow.

I fish mostly Lake of the Woods and did not know if the side imaging would come in handy. I love it and have found structure that I did not know existed. For instance a long point my have boulder off it up to 25 yards away (but not shown on the map). I put an icon on that pile and have seen some very large fish off it.

I have been using Humminbird stuff for a few years now and havnt had to much for issues... I ordered a 1198 for the wheel and 958 for the bow... Should be a decent set up...

The map companies do a great job putting together good contour maps, but there is always stuff missed and just not detail you really need, thats where I am hoping the SI unit will come in great... Excited to get out on the water and use it...
