Musky fishing & Marriage....

Is it possible to pursue our passions and still maintain a happy marriage??

I love that man....but I can't stand to fish with him!

If he took care of my equipment, never missed a net job, and was truely happy when I get a nice one on....would that make for a happy marriage? If he lovingly kissed me as I head off for a tournament and wished me luck(and meant it) and called to see how I did that day instead of "where's the party tonight" and then said "have fun" would that make for a happy marriage??
If he said "Don't worry about how much that lure cost, you really do need it." If he told me just once "Hey Karen, you're right...this is a great spot!" Instead of Hey! Karen, get my reel! (as it lay on the floor of the boat with a 44 1/2" fish on the other end and still managed to get the fish in the boat...would that make a happy marriage???

Thank God deer season opens soon! He wouldn't say those things to me with a loaded gun in my manicured hands...would he??

What do you guys think??

Yes, there is muskie fishing after marriage. My wife does not fish, can't stand to be in a boat, and enjoys the peace and quiet of home when me and the kid are out pounding the water. Marriage, at least the way we do it! does not mean sharing every moment, but sharing the joy of your spouse's happiness in individual pursuits. m

Karen, sounds like you may be a lesbian - just kidding.[;)]
My wife is great she never has a problem with letting me go fishing. I think she figures if she doesn’t let me go fishing with friends I’ll make her go with. Actually, she likes going and we spend a couple weeks family fishing together every year. She also likes it when we drop the kids off at grandmas for the weekend and two of us get out alone. Those trips usually turn into a boat ride “pin tour”, so it’s a run & gun kind of day with many laughs.
I’m leaving tomorrow for a five-day trip and she says to me this morning, “You sure are lucky to have a wife like me who lets you go fishing whenever you want. What should my reward be?” I said, “You get to have sex with me tonight”.

WOW, hard to be objective with one side of the story. I figure if its important enough to post on this board, marriage counselling is right around the corner. The divorce rate in this country is around 50%. That means half of us have no idea what we're talking about. Best left to the pro's.
My Psyc. professor always like to say that marriage was a sacred institution, but who wants to live in an institution.
My spiritual master says, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, that is, until you have to mow it.

My awesome wife of 25 years, is a devoted "die hard" muskie fisherperson, as long as I can guaranty that it will be 85 and sunny the entire time we are out. Then she loves it! Oh yea, and she can fish while reading a book too!
That is fine, you don't have to do everything all the time together to get along.
When you are together, the muskie fanatic must work to be just as focused on the partner's interests as you are on muskie fishing, atleast for brief stretches.
When talking about the partner's interests try to refrain from comments like: Are we done yet?, Didn't we do this once already.....last year?, Do people really like doing this?.
Life will go much better for the two of you! []

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife is happy to go fishing with me, have me go it alone, or for me to go with any of my fishing buddies. Of course I did have to travel all the way to Australia to find her...;)]

It probably helps heaps too that I meet her half-way by doing some of the things she likes with her and giving her personal time and space too. Remember guys and gals, it's a 50/50 proposition.

Karen...!!!!????

Now granted, we have never met in person but I gotta hard time believing that any self respecting man would not be nutso/head over friggen heels in-love like forever with a woman who loves to fish and hunt and is pretty good at it no less..![;)]

I looked high/low/behind trees/under rocks/in strip joints/the grociery store/blockbusters/etc/etc.

I finally got a keeper, I think[] and while she likes to fish on nice days she can just as easily do without it.

For your Hubby....

Dude,

Net her fish (don't miss), oil her reels, and fish where/when she say's "let's try here"...and fish a tourny or two with her. Damn man, she could be at the mall buying $80 pairs of jeans by the bag full instead of $25 musky baits.

Marrige is what you make of it...like most other things in life.

Interesting stats Jason, doesn't surprise me in the least.

This is a very additctive sport...gotta try and remember family first.

Does this guy have a job he likes? Does he have any other interests other than walking on your life and equipment? If not, then Ranger and Raze, are guiding you to the honey hole.[:knockout:]

Karen,
I have been through the wringer with the Muskie fishing and deer hunting, too. I can't say that the fishing and hunting were the only contributing factor, but can tell you I learned to qualify my relationship from the results. I now am 'hooked' on a serious lady angler who likes fishing ( and the fishing business) as much or more than I do.[]

My marriage was great for fishing. I lived on the kankakee river and mangaged to fish it on average once a week right in front of the house during the warm weather. And my boat? Hey we fished table rock lake once and went to wisconsin to fish on two weekends. We then lived in a house that was within minutes of about 40 lakes and I never put my boat on one untill after my divorce. Not bad for seven years, what do you think?

So my answer is yes, they work hand in hand together.[:knockout:]

All right Worrall quit rubbing it in...[] []

Top 10 things most of us will never hear at home.

1. I think the mall is going to be crowded today, can we fish muskies instead.

2. Honey I know the sofa is 12 years old but I would much rather use the money towards the new boat, after all it's already 3 years old.

3. This time do you think we could look at the 19' model with the 225 Opti and the kicker..?

4. I know there are already 20 rods/reels in the garage but those new Calcutta's are cool. Lets get a pair.

5. Does the color of this bucktail match my outfit.

6. Hey honey can we go to Canada again this year instead of that cruise to the bahama's.

7. As soon as I catch my first 50"er I'm gonna dance naked in the boat.

8. Awe, ca'mon can't we fish just another hour.

9. Your right that new 4x4, 4 door with the diesel is much better than buying a new house.

10. Hey this night fishing is really fun..ya know we're all alone out here...[:0]

ok...back to reality.[]

Karen,
I spoke with Sponger via email. See my post under the "where is Spone Bob" thread. I am serious. This could be a matter of utmost importance, as an incredibly important mathmatical formula including a special event on a special date is involved.

Mark,

GLOAT!!!! GLOAT!!! Actually HAVE heard several of the things you say we will never hear.
