| How do folks secure their boat trailer in the parking lot while fishing? Any favorite products or techniques would be appreciated. I am interested in stopping a low-down dirty thief from making off with my entire trailer, as well as valuable components (e.g. spare).
I've read locking lug nuts are insecure (hammer on a socket) - but that would make a bit of noise and take a minute or two at least. A boot that immobilizes the wheel and covers the lug nuts, ala parking authority, seems most secure but also a PITA to use. Seems like coupler locks are part of the solution?
Also any anectdotes would be the icing on the cake.

Location: Eastern Ontario | A locking reciever pin is a good idea but don't leave it in all the time without working it and oiling it they are a bugger to remove if rusted. ( I know) Don't count on just a padlock on your coupler when your boat is parked a number of boats around here were stolen by guys that had just a pin instead of a ball on their hitch allowing them to haul off a locked coupler. Even a golf ball inside the coupler helps but a propper coupler lock is better.
Even the best locks only keep honest people out thats why you buy insurance |

Location: Milwaukee, WI | Get a lock kit that includes a locking pin for your receiver and lock like the attached pic for connecting the trailer to your ball hitch. Most also come with a lock to be used when your trailer is unattended, too.
I picked one up for about $35 last year, if I recall correctly.

| dont forget spare rope and duct tape to tie up the a hole to whoevers trailer he screws with as present. |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | Best thing you can do is lock your receiver hitch & the trailer toungue/coupler. The other thing I do is when I need to buy tires I replace two, and put my spare on for one. I then put the used tire on for a spare. You are going to stop them if they want it just give them something that is harder or not as good as the one next to you. |
