| Wondering what are the best sunglasses that fit over prescription eyeglasses for seeing underwater. I have tried several types and am unimpressed. Seems like fishing partners in the boat, with high grade sunglasses, can see underwater much better than those wearing the fit over type. Has anyone found a pair that fiT over that they highly recommend? |

Your best bet is to break down and get some quality prescription sunglasses. |

Eyeglass Wearers Rejoice!
by Larry Ramsell
If you are a long-time wearer of eyeglasses like I am, you too are probably frustrated trying to find a good pair of Polaroid sunglasses that will allow you to see well into the water. I have tried everything I could find, including prescription sunglasses that were “supposedly” polarized, but none have ever allowed me to see fish in the water like many of those sunglasses available to my non-eyeglass wearing partners who always seem to see fish in the water that I cannot see. Every year many different outdoor magazines run articles on all the great (and mostly expensive) sunglass options out there for non-eyeglass wearers. They rarely, if ever, mention options for what is obviously a large segment of the angling population, those of us that have to wear eyeglasses.
Well eyeglass wearers, rejoice. Finally someone has come out with a product for us! Jonathan Paul Eyewear, makers of Fitovers® Eyewear (www.fitovers.com) recently specifically targeted anglers with their new line of Trilenium Gold® blue light filtering sunglass lenses.
According to the company, this “blue light” which is also known as “high energy visible light” (HEV) is what is defined as the first light rays the naked, human eye can process. Blue light is the brightest light in the violet/blue band of our visual spectrum. This means, according to JP, that wearers of this new Trilenium Gold® lens allows the wearer to filter out the harmful, bright, blue light, enabling their retina to focus more precisely displaying much sharper and clearer images and a high quality of visibility. The polarization of the lenses coupled with the patented technology allows the wearer to better contrast the fish from the water.
This new technology was originally developed by NASA and the Space Foundation at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. They developed this polarized, patented lens technology by studying an eagle’s eye. They discovered that eagles produce oil droplets that coat the eye, which enables them to see in extremely bright environments. The droplets were extracted and developed into the Trilenium Gold® lens.
According to NASA studies, this new “Eagle Eyes®” lens technology does actually let some blue light in so the wearer can still see color, while at the same time blocking out the harmful blue light rays. They also provide 100% UVA and UVB protection meeting ANSI standards. These new lenses come with a “Duo Hard Coattm” which provides multiple impact and scratch resistant treatments.
The Jonathan Paul “Fitovers®” do exactly that; they fit over our regular prescription glasses (or can be worn alone for non eyeglass wearers) and they are of a high quality “Crystal Nylontm flexible frame” construction that are comfortable to wear. I particularly like the fact that they also block out annoying light from the top with an integrated “brow bar” as well as light from the side and rear due to the frame and temple construction and they even have polarized side lenses providing 40% more protection, something many more expensive sunglasses do not have. The Aviator is the common frame style preferred by anglers and several other frame choices are available as well. They are also provided with three great complimentary accessories; a clip-on protective case for when the glasses aren’t needed, a microfibre cleaning cloth and an adjustable neck cord. Suggested retail price is a modest $49.95 per pair.

| Larry,
Lookinjg at the Fitover's website, they seem to have several different strengths of lenses as well as different colors. Is there a combination you have found best for fishing? |

| My dad wears Polar Shields. I think they're $20 at Walmart.
Has anyone tried Coast Bomba's? They aren't advertised at fit-overs, but they look like fit-overs. Maybe they would work.

Location: Aurora IL | get the prescription glasses if you can. one of the reasons clipons disappoint people is that about 10 percent of light is lost as reflection from any glass surface. the higher quality the glass and coatings used the less loss but its always there. compare cheap binos and rifle scopes to high end to really notice this. so-adding one extra surface, usually of cheap plastic and you see the problem, especially in low light conditions. i went to prescriptions (250-300) and will never go back. i actually see fish that boat partners with cheaper sunglasses miss. of course these could just be in my mind lol. just my thoughts Bill |
