| Can anyone recomend a good spinning rod for muskie fishing? Looking to put together a good spinning combo for finesse fishing. I hear about a lot of Bass guys on my local lake catching or getting bit off while throwing bass tubes, worms, jigs, so I thought I would try some of that stuff with a little more muskie suited outfit. Plus this would give me an outfit that the wife could use and maybe have a little more fun with. She does ok with a bait caster but a couple backlashes and she is pouting in the back of the boat. When momma aint happy, well you know the rest. lol |

Location: Chesterton, Indiana | I have a loomis GL2 7' Heavy rod that will throw up to 2 oz coupled with a pflueger patriarch 40 size spinning reel. I have 30 LB fire line on the reel. People who fish with me that don't like bait casters use this rod and reel set up if they don't have thier own. My dad was fishing with it last fall using one of the Rapala Xrap Jointed shads and landed a 49.5" Ski that hit on a figure 8 at the boat. This set up works good for me but once again it is light and the fisherman has to work the drag and let the fish tire out. I have to remember I am not using my 400 TE with 80 LB line but it works well if used right. |

Location: Detroit River | Shimano Compre 7' will handle up to 2 oz lures. Gander Mt. also sells a musky spinning rod that handles up to 5 oz lures ($30 I think they cost). My buddy has 2 of the Gander Mt. musky spinning rods & considering he doesn't take care of his stuff those rods have held up well for him.

Location: Smith Creek | Just look for a inshore saltwater rod rated to 4-6 oz lures. Every rod manufacturer makes them. |

Location: South-Central VA | What Flambeauski said, Inshore Saltwater! St. Croix has some really nice ones but they won't have 'musky' sized grips. I built an 8' heavy Avid Inshore for throwing some small stuff. It works really well for smaller lures and it has tremendous power in the butt section. No problem with muskies on that rod. They also make a Premier series Inshore that is exactly the same as the Avid. They offer the factory rods in casting and spinning setups.
