| Hey guys I was going to buy a new terrova. I was wondering if I buy one without i-pilot and decide to get i-pilot in the future can i use the foot control with the i-pilot installed..When I bought one for my power drive it I had to unplug the foot control to use i-pilot..Also was trying to pick a length..I just bough a g-3 bass boat so it sits low in the water so i was figuring the 45 inch would be fine but im kinda worried about it blowing out of the water when its choppy. Any input is appreciated-steve |

| the only thing I might put a 45" shaft on would be a Jon boat in a small river....I have a 60" on my bass boat..Ive had it out of the water.

| you can run a foot pedal with an ipilot if you add it later. I have the ipilot and it works great.
In terms of a 45" shaft a lot of bass guys use the 45". The longer the better I always feel though. If you are interested I have a used 45" terrova in very good shape without ipilot. Feel free to PM me if you are interested. |

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | I've got a Terrova with an 80# thrust rating and 54" shaft on my Tuffy X-190, similar to a bass boat in heigth from the water I'd guess. The 54" shaft is fine in all but the roughest water and when it gets that rough I want no part of standing in the bow casting. I rejected the 60" shaft on the grounds it was too tall and I'd be banging my rod against it constantly when I wanted to move a bait sideways or flip a lure under trees using a sidearm cast. Even the 54"er is too tall most of the time and gets banged by the rod or lures every so often in close quarters. I set my motor in the water just deep enough to keep the prop from cavitating. The last thing I need is to have the electric motor constantly searching for more rocks to hit, as it finds enough the way it is when I explore new areas or retrieve hung lures.
The only time I wish I had a 60" shaft is when I'm trolling walleye rigs with three guys in the back of the boat and then the bow mount is prone to cavitate due to all the weight in the back of the boat from the 3.3L V6 on a jackplate, 4 stroke kicker and ever so slightly rotund people.
Another thought, if you can get the I-Pilot factory installed right away do it. It costs so much less that way than by buying it seperately and installing it later.

Location: Not where I want to be! | Get the terrova with the i-pilot! I would also suggest getting the 60" shaft. You can take it to any minn-kota repair shop and have the shaft shortened to say 50" or what ever. |

Location: Davenport, IA | An aluminum bass boat sits much higher than glass. I would not go longer. I had a 48" on my Alumacraft bass boat and it was halfway out of the water most of the time. I had a 54" powerdrive on my glass boat and it was just as annoying. I have a 42" now and its just right. Sure, it can go out of the water when its rough, but I'll take that over it getting in the way. |

How is a 54" shaft in the way and annoying? You regularly fish with your boat in less than 3 ft of water? I guess i just don't agree - I have my 60" shaft all the way down and the prop comes out of the water enough on 400 acre lakes - Id never dream of going shorter. Newsflash - muskies bite on windy days.
