Location: Sussex, NJ | hey guys just trying to figure out what lure is better? The Phantom jerkbait or an ERC Hellhound? Any feedback or recommendations would be much appreciated! |

| both...hard to pick...personally I like the 6" sq phantom in the spring with a couple 10 fish days on them...and cold front situations...sq. hellhound when they want some a bit bigger.... buy em both.... also the big hellhound is pretty sweet too..i made a few of the big 10" hellhounds into squirrelly versions...they get attention.... |

| I like the phantoms slightly more...but like bnelson said both are great baits I have a 10" HH that is nice to work and a bunch of 7.5" softtail phantoms and the 6" softtail phantoms are my go to pike/tiger bait |

| fishfirst I like the 6" and the 7.5" softtails when im throwing for tigers, I did real well on the bleeding sucker color but anything bright worked for me on the tigers around here |

| I have fished both, LOVE Phantom while Hellhound is just another glider.
I like that you can fish the Hellhound extremely fast though...
Get a couple of each but if i had to choose one i would go for the Phantom! |

Location: WI | I like them both. The Hellhound is easier to work and seems to run shallower. If I'm not fishing as shallow, I'll use a Phantom. The hound' also seems to have a little more hang time. |

Location: syracuse indiana | well i do love them both, and they boat have their place to be used. I can say this about them , they both will be in the boat. and i am not just saying this about the HH either, as I have just been added to Drifter's guide staff. and just wrote a article for them on the hellhound. i do love their bait. they are so much easier for clients to use and learn how to use gliders right. also out of the two of them one is good becouse of it's plastic and i do prefer the wood phantom's. over todd's new plastic ones. just my two cents on that one....bill |

| If I want to go fast and erratic I'll take a straight Phantom (I prefer the 6" version). If I want a slower, more methodical retrieve, I'll go with the smaller Hell Puppy. I prefer the Hell Puppy (6") over the Hell Hound (8"). I find it easier to work. |

It's hard to put into words. I feel like it takes less effort to make it glide side-to-side. The Hell Puppy wants to glide, but the Hell Hound takes some persuasion. That's the best way to describe it, and that's 100% opinion. I also like the smaller profile size, but there are a ton of guys in my area that use the 8" Hell Hounds for tigers and are successful. |

Location: Sussex, NJ | I think ill start with the Hell Puppy than so i can get used to the action and than move up to the 8" Hell Hound. Thanks for the input and the help! Any specific color on the Hell Hound/Puppy?? |

| i currently have 6 phantoms and 6 hh's, the phantom outfishes the hh every time. Every one of my phantoms has caught fish or been followed. I have never had even a follow on any of my hh's. Hard to believe because the hh looks so dam good in the water. |

Not really. Just stick with a general natural patter or gaudy pattern like any other type of lure. Nothing fancy. |

| I m 99.9% phantom guy but when I want erratic and fast just to trigger or located Muskie I go with hellhound. I once had Muskie missed strike on fast moving hellhound and pointed out to spot for my rookie buddy to cast to with rad dog, 2 cranks later he got it and boated it as his first Muskie ever.
Both is very good lure as its have time and place for them. |

| They definitely have their time and place. My Phantom out produces other glide baits (mostly because I throw it all the time). But every once in awhile the fish prefer the Hell Puppy. There have been a few days when Phantoms didn't produce as much as a follow, but switching to the Hell Puppy changed fish totals considerably. |

Location: Sussex, NJ | Ill have to buy both and just see what happens that will be the only way to really see what works. Do you know where i can get the lures from at a reasonable price? I know I can get them straight from the manufacturer, but is there anywhere else that could give me a little better price? |

| Musky Tackle Online. Prices are a few bucks cheaper per lure, customer service is great, shipping is fast, and orders over $75 are shipped for free.

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Both are good Lures, And I have been using Both for about 5 yrs.
The Hell hound is worked easier shallow (for me @1-2ft. deep) but the Phantom,... I work a little deeper(3-4 ft.)
Both are great tools, and Fun to use,........ And both catch fish.
I have about a Dozen of each in different Colors.

Location: New Hope MN | This is like comparing a Ferrari to a Lamborghini in the land of Toyotas. They are both awesome baits.
I very slightly prefer HH’s. I think I can get them to fast glide or shoot side to side and induce strikes that way. They shimmy when you stall them too. But like others have stated the phantom is better deeper. I can’t get it to do what I can get the HH to do, but the soft tail makes up for it. I disagree with others on workability. I think the phantoms are easier mechanically. |
