I have a new 10" reef hawg which I weighted and tested out and it works wonderful. Question is do I cut the original hooks off and put split rings on and new hooks?
Thanks

NO!!!!! Changing the hooks or adding rings will change the action. The Eagle Claw 774's are, IMO, one of the best hooks on the market. Reef Hawgs are still one of the best baits available and made by one of the best guys in the business. Old school but still catch fish!

I am new to Musky fishing, but had the same question...Just picked up a couple of reef hawgs. So, the lack of split rings does not typically end up with lost fish??

I have more than my share of Hawgs. Thinking it started back around '69 or early 70's. we did just about everything we could to the reef hawgs. Have several with replaced, respaced hook hangers. In fact Steve Voigt just sent my grandson some of his old modifications on hawgs. He is in the shop right now painting or sealing them. If you can dial in your equipment to get good feel with the hawg they all catch fish. I have several that I cut the hooks on when dealing with a fish, replaced with split rings & hooks. Once I change one I do the whole bait. It does change the action but they still catch for me. I have several that are weighted beyond where they should be. One delivered a nice weedline fish last year.Great Bait!
