Location: Lake County Illinois | Hello i was wondering what models of okuma rods does anyone use for jerkbait rods?I know they make a jerkbait rod but i am upgrading from a 6' 6'' not okuma and wanted to go longer then the 6'10'' okuma jerbait evx i see listed.I see there is a 7'4'' heavy and have also seen a okuma guide series swimbait 7'11'' extra heavy that look promising for jerks and glides.I usually dont go larger than a hellhound or 7.5 phantom or 9'' weighted suick.I currently own all the evx telecopic models in the 8'6'' and 9'3'' and they have been outstanding, but wanted a jerkbait rod under 8' so i wouldnt slap the water as i prefer to jerk straight down as opposed to accross my body with the longer rods, also prefer the longer rear grip and would consider split grip like the swimbait series.Any information from you okuma users would be greatly appreciated as i have not seen these models in the stores near where i live by the illinois wisconsin border. Thanks in advance Ray |

Location: Bloomington, IL | I own a 7'4" Okuma rod. I got it for the about the same reasons as you and it works great - especially for 6-8" gliders, 9-10" Suicks, and WTD topwaters like Lil Docs, 6-8" Vipers (which are a bit heavier than most), etc. I like a little bit shorter rod for jerks and gliders and this rod fit the bill for me. I think you'll be very pleased. The new 2012 models that are coming out are lighter too (I believe Thorne Bros. already has them). Hope this helps! |

Location: Lake County Illinois | Thanks Nupe for the info was also wondering if the 7'4'' H has a softer tip like my other telescopic okumas or if its a little stiffer like a jerkbait rod.I also got a chance at the chicago show to handle a few of the new 8'6'' split grip okumas and they felt great, definetly lighter then previous models, didnt see any of the 9'3'' split grips but hopefully they will be at the milwaukee show. Also i know there are more okuma rod users in here so any info on what rod they are using for mid size jerks and glides would be appreciated. Thanks again Ray |
