Alright everyone, i'm getting a new puppy this spring and need some male dog names that have a muskie spin to them. "IF" we don't come up with a good name my wife gets to name my new hunting dog muffy or fluffy or duffy or "insert terrible dog name"

My best idea to this point is, Fin

Named my pooch Copper, after my favorite bucktail blade. Helps that a penny would blend in to his coat as well.

Had a black lab named Tallie
Double meaning - "tally wacker" surface bait - and Talladega racetrack where we had just been to watch a nascar race - so that was pretty cool

We have the perfect yellow lab--100lbs, well proportioned, best looking face head ever, great personality, my wife wanted to name him "Happy" when we brought him home.

Thinking quickly I took a stand---"Jake" would suit him better! Enough said.

Just as a footnote---hard to believe he is 9 now--I am going to miss that dog more than I thought possible.

We have two German Wirehairs, one is named Cisco, and the other one is named after our favorite lake that my wife caught her first muskie on. I could tell you his name as well, but it would give away a really good sleeper lake. Lets just call him Lake X for the time being.

Funny thing about Cisco is that I had never heard of the "musician" that goes by the same name....he wrote the "thong song." Trying to explain why I named my dog Cisco to someone who says "oh like the rapper?" never seems to convince them that it is a baitfish for muskies. They never seem convinced....

All of our dogs are named after fishing topics. We raise and breed Bichon Frise. Our Kennel Name is Kingfisher so every dog on its pedigree starts with Kingfisher's . The first three are the dogs we have now. The others are past Bichons we have owned.

Kingfisher's Little Kingfisher (Fisher Price) for short. Our retired stud.
Kingfisher's Opening Dazee (after opening day of fishing season) Dazee for short
Kingfisher's Mara Boo (after marabou) BOO for short
Past dogs
Kingfisher's Little Cleo (Owee) for short
Kingfisher's Tad Polly (Polly for short)
Kingfisher's Babbling Brooke (Brookie) for short
Kingfisher's Pearl Minnow (Minnie pew) for short

Here's Fisher Price on the water Musky Fishing and helping the Papa display the Muskies Inc colors. He's a GOOD BOY!!

For a chihuahua: quick-strike. How about 8 (as in figure 8), Vermillion, Mille Lacs, Wabigoon, Georgian, Lac Suel, Shabbona...lots of cool lake names. Burmek, Suick, Bobbie, Lowrance, Mercury, Johnson, Tuffy, Skeeter, Champion, Fenwick, Okuma.

I personally would use none of these names. Unless, I get a sponsorship. For free gear I will get a large white poodle and either shave in company logos are dye the hair. Your choice. Please PM me for details.

Doug, I I have an 8 year old boarder collie female ( ha ha ha ) named Musky.
She would go fishing with me all the time but now she just gets too crazy on the boat when I hook a fish. So I just show her the pics. lol
But my friends think im nuts for naming a girl dog "musky".

Gopher-after that surface musky bait that Rollie & Helen's sells. Maybe a good name for a retriever- like go for. Gopher this, gopher that.

Bait!! I told him that and he said bait this. This dog watches The sucker rig and ice fishes. He also trolls. AND HE BARKS AT BEARS. HA HA HA .

lOOK AT THAT LAST PICTURE. He is watching a sucker under a bobber. He barks when the Muskies take the bobber under. He is wonderful fishing dog. This little guy is boat savvy, lure savvy and just plain loves to go Musky fishing.

How about 'Rigger' so when he jumps up on you, you say 'Down Rigger, down Rigger!'

Or when he poops on the carpet you yell, "Out Rigger! Out Rigger!"

My first Lab was a female, named Max, for Black Max(Mercury Motor in the 80's) Wife wouldn't let me name a kid Max, so the dog got it.
My second was Relay. I'm an EE, so it fit.
My 3rd was Myndee. Not sure why.
My current Lab is Blue. My brohters dog is Black. Same basic age, so we have Black 'n Blue.

First I suggest you consider Bill Cosby's first rule for kid names in his book "Fatherhood". That first rule being, you have to be able to yell the name loud and long (paraphrased). Try yelling "Ben". Ok, now try yelling "Bennie". "Frank" vs. "Franklin". Yell "Sam" if you can. We once owned a dog named Mike; try calling that out loud. So, a name you can yell well.

Second, use a name that has a "short" which allows you to better communicate with your dog. For example, you could name your dog "Pardy" 'cause he'll be yer partner while you're fishing. You'll quickly move to "Pard", except, you'll use "Pardy" when you're telling the dog to pay close attention what you are about to say next. Just like talking quiet and reasonable with any kid in the hood, except your dog is smarter than most kids in your neighborhood.

Last, don't call him Ranger. That's me plus a huge boat outfit. I don't deserve the recognition and they won't pay you a dime for using your dog as a living advertisement.

My suggestion is "Pardy" as short for "partner". Take your dog out enough and that will become his name for you.

I've always thought that "dammit" would be a perfect name for a dog. You're yelling it at them half the time anyway. "NO! dammit!" Hey, come here, dammit! Don't pee on that! DAMMIT!! DAMMIT, Come back here!! Sit down, dammit!

If you have two new pups wait a week to see which one is more energetic and is faster. Then name the fast one Turbo and the other Lag.

I named my lab cash because he and musky fishing both take a lot of it.

Other vote goes for Dammit or a version of it #*^@it... Easy to yell while being outside in your underwear at 2am... Only worry I would have of that is that your neighbors might start thinking you're related to Al Bundy and trying to get away from the wife in the bed...
