Rooms are reasonably priced and in good shape, and has electrical hookups for your rig in the parking lot. It's less than 10 min away from the water. Good luck!

Look up The Green Retreat!! Brand new little log cabins,Full Kitchen,Flat Screens, small fishing pond right off the front of the cabins!! 15mins from Lake! I've stayed every where down there, except the Scary ass Apple Inn!! This place by far is the nicest around and pretty cheap. plug ins and plenty of safe parking.

Stay away from the Farmhouse. Tried to take my wife and some of her friends down there and the dead rats, mice, and mold was enough to scare off even a caveman.

Stayed at the American inn twice. It's nothing fancy but it is clean, power hook ups for the boat and not to far from the lake.

!7th street is worth the drive alone. If you like barbecue you will like this place.

The last two times we went in the spring. This year we are planning on going in the fall.

Enjoy

americas best is the only place I will stay at,good rooms for people fishing and haven`t had any problems all the times I`ve been down there with theft or anything else.17th st is good but the pizza place on the way to the lake is also good to stop and get a pizza on the way back to the hotel from fishing and it`s cheaper.wiffle boys I beleive is the name, stop and order and done in about ten mins, still hot when you get back to the room

17th Street still serves up some awesome BBQ, but if you like Mexican food, Sergio's is within walking distance from the America's Best Value Inn hotel. They have a dish there called Mama's Special that is off the charts good. Whenever my wife and I get a babysitter and go out, she ALWAYS wants Sergio's. Great margaritas too. You wont be disappointed, and I grew up in Chi-town eating some great Mexican food.

If you have never been there before you may consider hiring a guide. It's a very large lake and if you have someone show you the lake and what is working it could be very worthwhile. If you consider a guide I would highly recommend Chad Cain. Book early because he gets filled up. Do a search on the web and his name will come up.

Best of luck and have a great time.

If you're looking at staying on the lake, Kinkaid Lake Marina has rental cabins (2 bedrooms I think) that are close to the main launch: 618-687-4914
Also, if you choose to hire a guide, I second Dan on hiring Chad Cain. He knows the lake better than anyone - bar none. www.chadcain.com/index.shtml

I stayed down there when the earthquake hit southern Illinois, so 2008 maybe??? There were some trailors available to rent right next to the boat launch that were very clean and nice. I'm thinking it was about 100 bucks a night.

I tried a guide on Vermillion this summer, and say between other guides how they feel they own spots cause they fish for a living on that lake that turned me off. I would rather start slow and find my own spots then have a buff with another boat. But Thanks for all the good advise and looking forward to the new season.

Are there any places other than America's Best. My last two trips in a row with dirty rooms and had to switch rooms both times and still wasnt satisfied and figured it was futile at that point. Ill pay more for a clean room. Surely there has to be more to chose from down there in the way of hotel or motel. Chad? Anyone?

There a a good number of major chains at I57 in Marion. I would rather stay there than in any of the places closer to the lake. There is a better choice of food and it is only 20 minutes from the lake. That is 20 minutes when you leave at first light.

Americas best is the choice for local muskie fishermen but it is very dated and comparable to an older fishing camp motel room however he does have plenty of trailer parking for each room with electric at each spot. I'm just looking for a clean bed, electric at the boat, no theft and 10/15 min. from ramp. When it was booked up a few times or my wife goes along to shop I've went farther east on rt. 13 to the East side of Carbondale near the strip stores and you have major chains with indoor pools and many dining choices, about another 15 minutes down the road and $100.00 instead of $50.00 and electric is at a premium. Hope you enjoy the lake and trip. Many people have worked hard at making it a good lake for all species. I'm not saying how many 50's were recorded out if it last year but it was more than 1 and not bad for a southern lake.

For me it's a chance to fish open water in April for Skie's and happy for a bed and a #*#*ter, I would spend all my time on the boat or back sleeping, I like the 50$ over the $100+ a night. No woman are in my boat on this trip. Now I don't want to go were gear is going to get stolen, so I will lock up every night, extra work but worth it. Thanks again for the info. guys can't wait for April!

Lpmusky,

I plan on fishing Kincaid in the spring with my son. Stayed at American twice and it suited our purpose just fine. The owners have always been pleasant and the rooms are fine for fisherman. What I like most is you can park your boat close to your room with power and there is always plenty of fisherman around. I would check to see if there is a tournament going on. It can get pretty busy and limit your chance of success.

Have fun and good luck

We usually stay at the Kinkade Marina Homes, about 500 feet from the launch.
I think the number is 618-687-4914 if not just call the marina.

Inspect the "Farmhouse" before staying there and have a backup plan. The mold, insects, mice, and filth is enough to keep me far, far away.

Chad is no longer guiding on Kinkaid! He moved to Wisconsin. I highly recommend Walt Krause. Excellent guide and very helpful on what is going on throughout the year.
