I am trying to make some tinsel skirts for cowgirl type spinners. I have the fly vise and coil spring. How do i use the vise. I have a piece of wire in it and the coil goes over it but how to keep the coil from spinning?

Bend the wire a little to put tension on the spring. Use something thicker with a closer diameter to the inside of the coil. Like a 6/0 j-style hook. Use bolt cutters to cut off the bend of the hook (de-bur). Then bend the shank in vise to properly curve. Hope this helps.

Use something thicker with a closer diameter to the inside of the coil -- yep this is the ticket, I use a nail myself and put the coil over it.

Or, just put the spring in the vice. I tie onto the end of a long piece of coil spring, cut off when done and start tying the next one. Move a few inches out when you start getting too close to the vice.
