Location: Land of the Musky | I have gotten a lot of requests to see the new 2-piece rod. Took the best pictures I could for you guys. In short, these new rods will have the same ratings as my current rods do. Difference is, they will break down into 2 4.5' long pieces. The two pars are connected with a super strong spigot joint. These rods are great for traveling. I will also finally be able to ship rods globally for normal prices. Another nice feature is that you can keep your reel on the rod and break it down for short travels and no more issues with rod lockers... these will fit in a lot of the side lockers in boats too and you will already be rigged up and ready to fish. Not too bad to keep your 9' rod in the truck of your car too
A few guides really beat these up. Best one was a guide who took the MH and threw a lot of heavy lures up to and including ponders with it for about 6 weeks. And remember, my MH rod is rated for 1-6 oz lures. I told him to try and break it with normal use and he tried but the rod is still just fine even with the abuse he put it through in the fall of 2011. Hope to have these out by Spring (May). email me if you want me to send you an alert when they are ready to ship.
Thanks,
[email protected]
James

Location: Land of the Musky | Yes, Kevin Cochran's guide booth will have about 25 TI rods available. Stop by and see him. He was also one of the guides who tested my 2-piece rod if you want to ask him any questions about that rod. If you will be near the Madison Fishing Expo I will also have a booth there in Feb.
Thanks,
James

The best thing is that you are now able to ship them to europe as well.
We need muskie rods over here. :-D
CanĀ“t wait getting one, because I was looking for your rods here in Germany for while and just one guy had a few of these, but just solid grip and I prefer split grip. |

Location: Land of the Musky | For the handles I will be making both split and full grip in the 3 actions MH, XH and XXH. So, 6 new models for this rod line.
Adding these rods is a treat for my warehouse, they fit on normal 4x4 pallets for storage vs my 9' rods. Those are a nightmare to store! Just bought a bunch of 10' wide 16' tall three level steel pallet racks and had to make my own oversized pallets for the 9' rods. The fork truck does not like those pallets at all and neither do I. Can't see a thing on the sides... |

Location: Land of the Musky | For this 2-piece I will have to see how it does. If I get a lot of requests I may make a 2-piece 8' rod (2 4' pieces). The next project I really need to start is bass and walleye rods. Got an ice rod possibly in the works too. Something simple but trying to make one for retail of about $12-$14 with good components. |

Just find three other guys and the costs will go down. The only problem is the weak euro.... |

Location: Land of the Musky | esoxone-I will have 6 new lines of rods for the 2-piece.
Full Grip handles in MH, XH and XXH
Split Grip handles in MH, XH and XXH
I will price these right along with my current lines too. I will have them for $120 for a while. They cost a little more to make but it was not enough to make a new price point for them vs my other rods. Keep it simple
For rods in Europe, I do now have an outlet for the rods. Franglais Fishing.

If you do not see the rod you want, you can email Steve at [email protected] and let him know what you need. He will add it to the next bulk shipment from me.
Thanks,
James

| James,
Before you venture into bass and walleye rods, could you please make a 1 piece (and 2-piece) 7'6" jerkbait/topwater rod for muskie? I know 9' is the rage and I love the 9' XXH TI rod I have, but I am not a fan of such a long rod for baits that require a jerking motion to fish (I slap the water, side of the boat, and everything when trying to use such a long rod). |
|
|
|
| Do you make a one-piece 8' XXH? Love the 9' XH for blades, but I'd like a shorter rod for ripping plastics. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Lucky Craft Man,
Nope. BUT how does a 7'9" Jerkbait rod sound? Just put in my production specifications yesterday. I plan on making a 7'9" jerkbait rod with a power about 35% more than my current XH rod. Basically a little more backbone and a little less tip flex but no a broom stick. Both split grip and full grip too. 16" handles with 5" foregrips, 8 line guides plus the tip top, Fuji components. Hope you guys like it. I will also have my 8' rods out in about 3 weeks. Just in time to take to the Feb. shows (Madison and Michigan).
Thanks to Shawn too! Messaged back and forth with Shawn a few times and tweaked my specifications a little. He also talked me into not just making a full grip rod model for this. So, for you split grip junies you can thank Shawn.
Leaving for Minnesota Sportsmens show right now. Just in time for the 50mph winds and snow!
Thanks

Location: Ontario, Canada | James, The 7' 9" jerkbait sounds awesome.
Your new 8' rod. Will it be a one piece, in mh, xh, xxh, and the same length handle and foregrip as the 7' 9'' jerkbait ?
What power in the 8' would be best for throwing Mag Dawgs ?
Any info, on the 8' is very much appreciated.

Location: Land of the Musky | Right now the new jerkbait rod will be a one piece rod. If they go well I will open it up into either a telescopic or a 2-piece rod with spigot joint. Just need to see how they go.
The new 8' rods are all one piece rods. About 3 weeks out right now from being ready to ship.

Location: Canada | What's the specs on the 8' one piece MH, split grip ? I would like to consider this rod to replace my 8' Avid I currently use as a buck tail/crank bait rod. Let me know when the jerk bait rod is ready, can't wait to get one of these too, replace my LT 7'6". |

| Not only an interesting new rod but thank you James for pointing out some the logistical issues involved in the long rods. I have wondered about that when reading about shipping issues, what it must be a like to have a warehouse full of very long pieces of inventory, that have to be treated with a degree of care. Not like you are handling decking material. |

Sounds perfect. What is the handle length of the new 8' (XXH) full grip, and can you specify where you are measuring that length from? Thank you. |

Location: Ontario, Canada | Would appreciate some info, on these two thoughts:
1-Which power of the new 8' rod is best suited for magnum dawgs XH or XXH ?
2-If it's the XH that is better suited does that mean the XXH would be just too stiff in the tip, or does it come down to personal feel regarding these two powers while using mag dawgs ?
Reasons for the questions is that I'm trying to define for what purpose I could use both the XH and XXH 8' rods in my arsenal.
Thanks. Al |

| I'll put my vote in for an 8' two-piece. I would keep it in the back of my truck as a travel rod/wading rod. It would be used from shore (on in the water) of a small river, so I think a 9' rod is a little too long for this application. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Allen, IMO you will be happier with the XH rod for Mag Dawgs. It will also throw pounders too but it loads up just a little too much. Many do not know this but all of my rods can throw big baits, even the MH (1-6oz lures). This is due to the materials and adhesives we used to make our blanks. What we did though was rated our rods for the lures weight they load up in the "sweet spot" with. Personally I like the XXH for most baits, even a small 7" Suick. The problem is, you really need to watch your reel drag when throwing baits outside of the lure ratings for the rod or you will birds nest your reel a lot. So, you are correct with the personal "feel" for the rod of choice but 80%+ of my customers like the XH for double 10s up to mag swimbaits. Some like their rods to load up more and gt the MH and some less and choose the XXH. |

Yeah but i would like an even lighter rod, as i said, 3oz casting weight (like the St Croix Legend Long Ranger) |

Location: Land of the Musky | The sweet spot for the MH is from 1-6oz and many use it for lures less than 1oz too. A 3oz bait is right in the middle of the optimal loading range for this rod. |

The 9'0 MH and 8'0 MH rods are used soley for my pike ad tiger muskie fishing during the hot days of summer. I use these rods specifically for 6" grandmas, smaller blades and spinnerbaits, jigs, and small glide baits. Works perfect for those size baits |
