A friend was at the NPAA Conference this weekend and got news of a new tiller which Ranger is coming out with this year, an apparent reincarnation of the Ranger 681t. Here are some of the details he mentioned. I am interested if anyone else has heard additional details about the boat and when they will become available?

I would expect given the specs below this boat will perform well as a musky/walleye rig. From the details given the boat sounds similar in specs to the discontinued 681t & 617t. The boat is longer and wider than the 681t and has higher hp rating but same hull weight. The length and width are almost exactly the same as the 617t but the biggest difference is it's 510lbs lighter! My guess is this boat should hit 35-40mph with a 75hp engine on the back.

Name: 175T Angler
Length: 17' 6"
Beam: 86"
Transom: 20"
Hull Weight: 1,000lbs
Max HP: 75hp - Hull is designed for a 60 but can take a 75hp engine.
Livewell: 50"
Rod Locker: 8ft
Layout: Similar to 618T & 620T
Colors: Can be customized

Can't wait to see it. Now, if only Ranger would bring back the 690 hull...

looking forward to seeing this boat as well. Was also curious about the new Tuffy, but it seems to be coming along pretty slowly (if at all?)

Anybody have more info or links to anything on this new boat?

Tuffy X176 = Duke Nukem Forever.

Did you hear if the X176 project was officially scrapped? Curious; I've seen past posts go unanswered and just assumed this boat was never getting past paper.

Fiberdome has been extremely busy with tooling for a couple major projects (check out http://www.fiberdome.com), so the X176 will be developed this year and tested for 2013 release.

Tuffy already offers the 1890T, 1760 T, 1890 GT, and 1760 GT. The X176 will be a low profile multi specie rig.

The new Ranger should be a great boat. I'll be talking with Liddle Marketing this week and see what information we can get on the rig.

Every time I see a new boat come out I have to ask myself, "Why would any boat manufacturer come out with anything new that doesn't have at least 9' rod lockers?"

That's pretty simple. Not every boat can accommodate 9 ft rod lockers and not every boat is made or targeted specifically for muskie guys. After all, muskie fishing is one of the smallest markets out there, however it is one of the fastest growing segments.

The unveil is scheduled for the Minneapolis Sports show in March at the Frankies Marine booth, we saw the rough molds and it looked like a nice well thought out setup. Should be in the mid $20's with the 60 HP and is designed to perform well with that engine.

TJ, I realize not every boat is made or targeted specifically for muskie guys but if they didn't have musky anglers in mind, why the 50" livewell? Just think that they are losing some potential sales from a fast growing market. I know my next boat will accommodate the longer rods. Recon boats handle 9 footers and the new Skeeter MX1825 will handle 12 footers to name a few.

A 17.5' boat would use more than 50% of it's entire length, some of which is transom and bow area, for a locker that big. That means a huge front deck and smaller cockpit than many offer, or a side locker that has a large enough hatch that starts about 30% forward from the transom, which limits foam placement for flotation and overall design.

The 50" livewell is also a highly desired feature by walleye anglers. Standard has been 60" for a 'muskie' well.

My whole point is, it's very desirable in my opinion to be able to lock up or store rods while trailering and when boat is going to be left un-attended for some reason or another. How many threads have you seen about guys wondering how long of a rod they can get into their vehicle? Can't tell you the number of times I've had to un-load everything that can't be locked down after a day on the water or while attending out of town pre/post tournament meetings, etc. Fortunately, you can fit a 9 footer diagonally in a dodge quad cab but it's still a pain.

Guess what it really comes down to, is how important is it to you as a potential boat buyer. As far as Ranger goes, how important is it too them especially with just about every musky show preaching at one point or another about using longer rods.

Check out the Recon 785/985 or the Skeeter MX1825. They managed to do it and still have what I consider a good layout.

I run a 2007 Tuffy 1890 GT. I can fit 4-9' and 5- 8'6" rods in my locker at the same time no problem. The specs. for the boat say 8'6" but I've had 9' rods in mine many times with 3" to spare. Best tiller layout on any muskie boat I've ever seen. Tons of lockable dry storage and enough room to fish 4 musky fishermen. 52" livewell also. When mine sells I will be ordering a 2012

I don't see where Recon even makes a tiller, so why bring them into this discussion about TILLER boats.

I'd be interested in seeing the x-176 when it comes out, sounds about right for me.
