What would be the best rod for tossing bulldogs? I am using a 7 ft rod 1-2 1/2 oz. Good spinnerbait bucktail rod. Seems to be a lot work to throw bulldogs with it. I lost the first fish I had hit the bulldog with that rod. Do I need something stiffer? I have limited budget and was thinking about the 6'3" Bass Pro Graphite series rod.

My bulldogs name is Bob.

Best rod I have found: 7'6" XHeavy Lamiglas (gc767 I think): $240
Best cheaper alteranative: 8' Aurora Heavy Bucktail: around $125-$150

*though the kennel is smaller than it was, the Dawgs don't have names, just attitude.

Why don't you give me an e-mail at [email protected]. I custom build rods and there's always the possibility that I could build you something.

Chad,

I rep a line of rods, that come with one of the greatest pricepoint's, as well as toughness. Send me an e-mail, and see if I can't hook you up.

[email protected]

It is 7'6" long, very light, and perfect for throwing the Dawg.

Chad,

I use the 8' Classic Cat by St. Croix, the added length in the 8' rod is great for doing a figure 8 and it also let's you toss them Mag Dawgs all day long. The rod is also great for trolling a sucker fishing, I think they go for around $140.

I have been throwing BullDawgs since 1995, I have used them combined with nearly every rod available and I have found that the Lamiglas 7'6" Inshore model with a slightly longer handle and butt knob end leaves me with less fatigue, better accurousy and more lure control and sensitivity. It's fast tip combined with strong backbone gives you the powerful hookset needed to hook up with one on the DAWGS. There are other rods that do a fine job when tossing the DAWGS but this is the best I have found for both the Medium or Magnum DAWGS.Weither you pull, jerk, jig or twitch your Dawgs you can't go wrong with this rod. Longer rods also allow deeper figure eights which I have found is when a big percentage of my hits occur using the Bulldawgs.
Hope this helps.
