Looking for feedback on Mid 90's Mariner 175hp 2.5 EFI motors.

Thinking about a used rig that has one on it. Any info pro/con is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, I had one on a Skeeter in 1996 & 97. Went to a 200 2.5 liter in 1998 on a Ranger. Both motors were great starters and runners. Never had a problem with either one. As far as I know they are both still running great as well.

Mark,

This is from Walleye Central. I think these motors are pretty bullet proof. Trying to best my WOT speed? hehehe

Our Merc 150 efi is a 97, gets used quite a bit by three people (brother, me and Dad). We have only had three problems:
1 - trim stuck going up - this was a bad relay, a $12 part if I remember, and easy to change. Maybe it was a bit more than that, but not much.

2 - beeping at the throttle - it ended up being water in the fuel due to a loose vent on the boat. The beep did what it was sposed to, and the fuel water sperapter did also - we just put a new fuel water seperator in (very easy) and cost was about $16.

3 - our throttle and shift cables broke. This was right where rear platform is in front of the motor, where the cables come out. I blame the boat design... I was able to fix them in about 30 minutes never doing this before. Each cable cost $25.

All in all, a very reliable motor, and we even have used this boat for duck hunting, so the motor has not really been babied. It starts puuurrrrrrrfect
