I'm trying to find the names of topwater baits that have an action that is best decribed as head/tail bobbing up & down in place with little hoizontal movement as opposed to a traditional zig-zag motion .
The right jerkbait might work too. If anyone has any suggestions, I 'd like to hear them. Tried reef hawgs, docs, jackpots etc and haven't quite found what I want.
An unusual request I know but maybe someone has experience with baits that will do this.

I have had a lot of success with the 9" Sledge. I normally use it as a topwater style bait. I jerk it so it slides just under the surface and then I let it crack back up through and stall for a second before pulling again. You will find your rhythm with it. You can make it walk the dog, but I have actually had more success with just a straight pull. The Sledge has internal rattles as well and is a great wake up bait. It really shines in calm conditions when fish aren't chasing faster moving baits. Caught 3 muskies and a pike this year in a 2 hour window on that bait and it's been great to me in past years. I rarely see people using them, so it also makes a good change up. Strikes are usually incredible, which is the best part.

I have not personally used one but, from the description, it sounds like "The Fred" from Sledgehammer lures might do what you want it to do. www.sledgehammerlure.com
