Sorry guys, just got a PDF file from the local Shimano rep on the new Tranx and I tried to load it on the site but it was too big. Looks like it will be available in March of 2012 and will retail for $499.99. Mike.

500 bucks? seriously, kinda pricing these out of the average mans salary. My wife would kill me if I bought one of these. I'll stick to my abu garcia reels.

While 5 Bills is nothing to sneeze at the price seems to be in line with other high quality reels. This years pricing for a TE 401 is $369, TE 701 $410, Lucanus $459, Trinida 14NA $469.00, Trinidad 16NA $479.00. I'm not replacing all my TE's and Trinidad's any time soon but I will have one the fast versions of these strapped onto my XH Predator on opening day...

I will have one also. But which one to get? The fast or slow? The slow may be fast enough for 10's. I hope to hear more reports from those lucky enough to play with them already.

That's what I was figuring. With a $500 MSRP I think I want to have the one that has the most power, but it's still faster than most reels on the market - and way faster than any reel I have in my boat. The 43" line pick up is tempting, but I'm sort of afraid I would be blowing out bucktails with the 6.6:1. The "slow" 4.6:1 seems much more versatile on paper. I'm thinking about getting the 4.6:1 now and save up for a 6.6:1 in a year or two.

It would be nice if they were more affordable and I could have one of each. I think if they set the price closer to $300 people would be more inclined to buy both models. I know I would much rather buy two for $600 - $700 than one at $500, even if the $500 MSRP is an appropriate price compared to other models. At the very least I wish I had the opportunity to make a dozen casts with each to see which one I would prefer.

I'm in the exact same boat, planning on getting a Tranx this next spring but I can't decide which gear ratio to get. I'm leaning towards the higher gear ratio, especially because I already have a LJV for slow-rolling blades and big rubber. But if the lower gear ratio Tranx will still allow me to burn blades with less effort, versus the hyper-speed of the high gear ratio with more effort, I may lean more that way. I'm giving up a Trinidad 16NA for this Tranx, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to want the fastest speed, but it would be really nice if there was some way to demo the two versions before buying.

I found this info, today. The video gives a close look at the reel.

http://www.factsoffishing.com

http://www.tackledirect.com The specs, and are under the freshwater reels.

I'm also not sure what speed reel to get at this point. I would like both and then I can mix and match with the rod/bait I'm wanting to use at any given time through the seasons.

If I can only afford one at the time I think the 4.6:1 might be the way to go. At least it may not be as fatiguing to crank as the 6.6:1 "high gear (HG)" for dble 10's. However, I like the idea of maybe matching the "HG" with a sling blade for using 8's. 9's and 10's, or using the "HG'' on a big dawg, TI, or Mike Hulbert's 9' for 10's and mag dawgs.

Oh the wondrous thoughts of all things musky tackle so I can continue to feed my obsessive psychotic consumerism. It just seems simpler to get both rather than trying to decide one over the other, and live with the cost. There I go again convincing myself that more is better. Well that's the addiction associated with this sport of musky fishing that I love .
