What do you prefer to do say in OCT or NOV.

My prefered method is running slow gliders, like Underatakers and Squirrko's. Taking my time on spots, not running and gunning. I run a sucker or two on quicksets because its the traditional thing to do here in Wisconsin. (touchy subject for some I know)

Deep breaks, inside turns on weedlines and breaklines....spot on the spot presentations is really the key. Often spots that dont produce during the season are some of the best. Certain spots I have learned in time produce muskies only in November.

Otherwise my most used presentation is using either 12GA or 25-06 to rid those four legged bloody jumpers that roam our nations highway system.[;)] []

Bouncing suckers just a little off the bottom on quicksets!

No doubt the jerkbaits get their workouts. Especially those slow rising suicks, and bobbies. But I'll take the gliders out and work them at a snails pace. I have more confidence during this time of the year having fish grabbing the gliders than during the summer. Slowly gliding and hanging the bait in their face.

Grinding countdown crankbaits off the bottom has paid off in the past also. I also have my dirty grubs on a great suspended style crankbait that's starting to convert this jerkbait tossing fool into a crankbait popping fanatic. Dang!! just don't tell my brother I said that. He'll hold me to it. [:0]

catch ya later,
Krappie

I am going up to Cass between the 18-24 of Oct. Don't know what really to expect since I am mostly a summer fisherman so it will be a learning experience for me. I spend my spring and fall periods bass fishing on a small 80 acre resevoir I live on here in IL. I hope Cass don't freeze over before then, I still have my boat and lift in the water! [:knockout:]

It may be hard to beleive but I spent the Oct 5&6 weekend in Northern Vilas plopping Topwaters. The water temps where 52-54'. Had a very powerfull mid 30" fish jack me at boat side and a second swirl and miss. We also had a 42" on a sucker and a few follows on glide baits.

I like subtle, easy-to-eat topwaters and neutrally bouyant jerk baits until November. After that, the program is countdown Depth Raiders and little else. We don't get to trail suckers around here but we'll sometimes have one rigged and ready for a reluctant November follow.

This time of year is the time live bait shines.
As far as artificials go, Mag Dawgs, suicks (weighted), reef hawgs, twitching Deep diving Slammers and topwater are my best producers.

I love this time of year!!!I'll start Oct. Grinding spinnerbaits in the remaining green weeds. This has been a very effective technique the past couple of years. CJ's and Raddogs.Of course we'll be trailing couple suckers on lift off rigs. As the temps drop, it's jig time along with gliders and bulldawgs. Oops, did I fail to mention the fuzzy duzzit.Typically the big metal dude comes into play in the couple weeks before freeze up, with water temps in the mid 40's on down. Oh yeah, throw in a 10" jake for good measure. Steve

Surface temps. at a near by lake read 69 degrees as of Saturday. All fish seem to be in the 15- 20 ' depths. Have tried jerkbaits , bucktails , topwaters and cranks---- no luck. ALL action have come from trolling , mostly in the 15-20 ' range, DB-08s, Shad Raps, and jointed Swim Whizzs trolled a very long cast back. Speed is unknown but it's not as fast as I've been told to troll, just a good thump to the rod tip is the speed we troll. best fish has been a 40", 16lb. 2 oz. tiger, released to fight another day.
