Location: brooklyn park mn | Hi came across miles bay camp (lake of woods) on web and was considering it for a trip for next season for a week. Does anyone know if the water is stained in that area like sabaskong bay area? Also if anyone has been there was it any good to stay there etc...? Thanks jim

| we stay in sabaskong but fish up to miles bay. in july the algae bloom starts up there and is pretty green. it seems like the tea stain water is south of the blueberry islands and turns green from there north. still fish up there though. |

| I'd have to disagree with the statement about the blooms in Miles Bay. Not saying their is never a bloom up there in July, but you will find bloom everywhere at different times; I've seen it from the Painted Rock Channel/Big Island Area, north into Miles Bay, south toward Raspberry and Blueberry, Hay Island, and down near Nestor Falls.
If I had to rate the clarity in Miles Bay compared to other areas of Sabaskong (Blueberry, Hay, general Morson area) I'd say it's on the clearer stained side, say 2' maybe 3' visibility.
Have heard good things about MBC (have considered staying there), but there are no fish in Miles Bay (which is odd because why would I want to stay in an area with no fish?).  |

Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Blooms can be bad different areas at different times once the green stuff shows up later in the summer. Areas east of Morson were generally more clear overall this past season and that is not uncommon year to year, but that is not always the case. Wind will often give you an area within a basin that clears up some when the bloom is in play.
Don't pick an area hoping, expecting blooms to be different than what you are used to. Be ready and willing to work with what you're given and you won't be disaapointed if/when it doesn't turn out how you expect.

Location: brooklyn park mn | Thanks for the info guys. Was also wondering about a place called hidden island resort. Sounds like it was closed but opened again. Hidden island hideaway? Maby? Anyone know if they reopened? Got this info off of different site so don't know if accurrate. Right now looking into tamarack lodge, grassy narrows, and miles bay camp as well. They all seem pretty close to good fishing. Any experiences with the mentioned lodges? water clarity question cleared up thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure not fishing super clear water. Bringing first time low timer my girlfriend up for week. Any info would be apprecciated. |

| Duck Bay Lodge has everything you could possibly want. Great owners/staff, food, boats, guides & close to good fishing! A significant other would be very comfortable there. Not all that far to fish Miles bay.....Mylies Place is also a great location with very comfortable accommodations & very friendly & helpful owners/staff. |

Location: Not far enough north! | X2 for Duck Bay Lodge but Shh... Dont tell anyone. I like the solitude and getting away from the crowds. We never have to get more than a couple miles from camp to get into fish. The food is great and service is outstanding. It can get a little rough with a stiff west wind but with a good deep v you can get out anytime... |

Location: Yahara River Chain | I have been going to Miles Bay Camp since the late 70s. Its always be fun there although I didn't always fish muskie especially early on. Stayed at Miles Bay Camp. Great folks there. Matt & Jenn run it now. I remember when Matt's grandad ran it. Family owned for decades.
The last the last time there a kid fishing with us had on a muskie if it didn't go 50 was awful close. Slammed him at boatside and after a couple of dives and many head shakes came unpinned. That was cool to watch.
As for the bloom, i don't think you can get away from it anywhere on LOTW, but it gets real bad in Miles Bay when the southwest winds are steady for a few days. Seen it so bad that you can track each one of your casts. |
