I have found that adding split rings changes the baits movement drastically. It seems that the bait loses its side to side action, and just moves up and down. I have also noticed that the hooks foul every other cast with split rings too. I have tried different hooks, leaving the center hook off completely, etc....and eventually went back to no split rings.

I noticed the same on the 6" ones but not on the 8" ones. So I keep the hooks on the 6" ones and splitring the hooks on the 8" ones. Except the secret super cisco reef hawg!

Anyone else have experience with this?

| Umm....cut some wood off the reef hog replace your hooks with split rings and relocate them and add a little lead to the back so they sink tail first! | |

| that's definetely a good thing, tail down! But I have caught more on custom weighted (either factory weighted or I added a screw-in weight myself) " ones and regular tail down 8" ones.
has anybody had success with the custom weighted 8" ones? My super RH sinks tail down vertically. Weird, because the other two 8" ones I have are very buoyant. It's like throwing a stone when I fish with this bait. | |

| I have a couple custom weighted 8's that work well, but I need the weight just to keep them walking how I like them without popping out all the time as some of them are very buoyant. Also the new ones with the big heads again are hard to get to dive deeper without them rolling, so a little weight is neccassary. I leave factory hooks on till they need cutting as they are the best hooks money can buy, and perform just fine as is. After cutting, I replace the front two with Mustad wide bends, and never split ring the back one as that is the one that if split ringed, takes away from the swing quite often. I open the screw eye and put a new hook on. | |
