"First time Musky angler Daniel Polniak Jr. of Ogdensburg, NY was fishing with his friend Jeordi McEwen aboard "Sign Man" when history was made. Capt. Rich achieved his personal best when he guided Daniel to this GIANT 60" x 29-1/2" Musky. She was safely released after the photo. "
The paragraph raises a question - who caught the fish, the guide or the client ? Was it the guide's PB guiding or catching ? When somebody guides a client, I guess I am led to believe the client caught the fish but the "PB" verbiage kind of threw me off.
Regardless, the fish is absolutely a tanker. Congrats to all involved.

The weight estimation calculator on this site puts it at 65.27 pounds. Louie's was 69 lbs 11 oz.
An estimate is just that, and the error could be high or low. So, certainly this fish had the potential to break the 69 lbs mark. What is curious is if this guy has a scale on his boat. With the number of big fish he's guided people to, one would think the would have something.
Either way, Louie just popped another bottle of champagne as his record still holds.

And contrary to what the record books say. Dale McNair's fish should be the new benchmark. I wish he would have kept that pig and put this record thing to rest. Art Lawton's probably slammed down a shot right now flipping off Louie saying I'm gonna win yet!

Say what? Why bring that controversy into this discussion? What purpose is that going to serve - except maybe to give yourself some kind of bogus WI is better nonsense? No way was Louie's fish even close in size to this one. |

What does this thread have to do with then?
A big fish? Yes
A great catch? Yep, truly an accomplishment.
A fish that could have been a world record? You bet, and I didn't even bring it up.
Does Louie Spray's musky come up in world record consideration? Yep. |

Why not just congratulate this guide for one helluva fish that we all dream of catching and not ask questions. You guys are rediculous. | Hats off to Capt. Clarke on a fish of a life time, possibly a record breaker. Has to be one of the largest to be landed and photographed. One fish no one talks about is the Robert Malo musky. Which if it actually weighed 70lbs., it would have to be the biggest fish to lay in a net ever. Has anyone seen or have pics of the 70lb. fish caught out of the Middle Eau Claire in 1954. I've seen one pic from the freshwater hall of fame. it looks like it just ate a dog. If I am correct it would be the world record had it been weighed on a certified scale. |

Capt.Rich,
Now you know what it must be like to win the Super Bowl and be the MVP!
Amazing fish---Congrats---Way to go!
Couple thoughts---In your opinion-are there even bigger fish in the system she was caught?
What are your personal thoughts on the whole world record Musky controversy?
Practically--will this change anything about the way you fish or approach guiding in general?
Finally--What does it feel like personally to catch the fish every guy out there is chasing? |

| First I would just like to say thanks for all the nice comments.
To answer your questions...
1. Yes I absolutely believe there are bigger fish in the St. Lawrence. We truly have the potential for the world record to come from the waters here in Clayton, NY
2. I always said it would have been good if the old records were froze and honored as historic record. A new category for current records could have be opened and the new rules would be followed by current anglers. It is a shame to bash reputations of anglers who can not speak for themselves. Do I believe there are some records that are not valid? Yes. But that was then and this is now.
3. This will not change anything as far as how I conduct my business.
4. It feels great! I have dreamed about this since I was a young boy. It is very satisfying to accomplish a goal honestly.
Best of luck to all and don't ever stop chasing the big one. There is always a bigger one out there. Mine will be bigger the next time someone catches her. |

| Rich,
It is refreshing to see your humbleness regarding possibly one of the largest fish to be caught and released. You're a class act and a model for others in the industry. Keep up the good work, enjoy your accomplishment, and hit the 40 for an even bigger one! |

I can't believe no one has asked yet, but was it a Canadian side (40 acre shoal) fish, or a US side fish? |

That's a fact. We really appreciate your allowing us to publish the image of the fish, and truly appreciate your participation in this thread. Giant fish. |

| Now that's a mind-boggling Monstosity of a Musky! Kudos to him for the CPR and releasing the Musky back into the water to fight again. I heard he caught it while trolling a big crank with an adjacent shelf or some type of flat off the deep water. He didn't see the Musky on his locater.......the Musky just came out of nowhere and the battle ensued for his newbie Musky client. The Musky had one inch teeth and from what he could "gather" was healthy, robust, and showed plenty more years to grow. Now, the guide says he's after a 61incher, hey I think I'd be pretty elated with a 52. Keep casting those line's fellas because one day you just never know. |
