| any of you PA guys on here know anything about this lake? I live about 2 hours from it in western NY and wanted to get some more info on it for a possible spring trip or 3 in april/may before our season opens. not looking for honey holes or anything like that just some general info.

| I've fished the lake a few times for bass, mostly from the shore. We have a camp about an hour away. It's a pretty lake for the most part. I saw a mid 30s in the spillway last summer.
Talk to Don Kelly, owner of the Tackle Shack (Wellsboro, Pa; about 20 minutes from the lake). He has a handful of musky lures and some really nice topo maps of the lake in his store. Here's his info:s

| I'm not sure where you live in NY, but I would look for more western lakes in Pa. Arthur, Pymatuning, Tionesta, etc. Depending what kind of boat you have there's also the Allegheny River. I'd have much more confidence on one of those lakes than Cowanesque. Look under the PA section of the Outdoor Network Forum (outdoors911.com) for better info on those areas. Most of the guys on there are from western PA, so they know all about the waters out there.
There's also Ohio. Not sure how far of a trip that would be or how productive the lakes are, but I'm almost positive the season is open year-round. I assume the non-resident license is a lot more reasonable than what PA charges. For the number and quality of lakes in our state they should be paying us to fish, not the other way around. | |
