Gents -

My wife and I are new members of Muskies Inc. (joined in 2011). The other day we received a 2012 Muskies Inc. calendar in the mail. The envelope also included a return envelope, but nothing more (i.e. a note or payment instructions).

So...

Am I expected to write a check to MI for $12.95? I did not order and therefore, was not expecting, a calendar. However, it is awesome. So whether or not I am expected to remit a check, I am going to make an additional contribution to the group. I am just curious whether members are expected to pay for these.

Last question...is MI a 501(c)(3) organization?

Thanks for the feedback,

H20

No, you don't have to pay for the calendar. There should have been a cover letter explaining the fundraiser, that you owe nothing and with a remit stub on the bottom if you choose to donate. Yes they are tax exempt and for every $25 you donate, you get a $10 Gander Mtn gift card.

The cover letter has your name and address on it as it was in the window of the mailing. So you should have gotten a cover letter or else you wouldn't have gotten a calendar.

Remember that you can only deduct what you donate. Example - you donate $100 and get $40 worth of Gander Gift card. You can only deduct $60 from your taxes.

Thank you for the timely response.

"A charity that recieves a quid pro quo contribution in excess of $75 must provide a statement to the donor describing what portion of the donation represents consideration for goods or services (code section 6115)."

I am an accountant

Since I probably threw away the letter, can somene tell me who I can write a check to?

Thanks again!

Am I the only one who thinks they could do a whole lot better with these calenders? I'm not really interested in putting a picture of a dude I don't know on my wall for 9 months out of the year. Why can't they use more scenery pictures? Like a lake on a misty morning or after a snowfall? I could look at a rocky canadian shoreline for several months, etc etc. But just some random dude holding a fish with several other smaller pictures of random dudes pasted on top is just not for me. Calender goes straight to the trash every year.

They need to get more generic with the pictures. And I'll say it for you so you don't waste your own time.

Why don't I just volunteer my own time to make the calender?

I wonder what the cost is per calendar to print?
just some random thoughts here but why not give each member the option to receive it or not. As I would imagine there are 100s if not 1000s of members who would rather have the money spent on the calendar go to stocking!!!??
I don't put up the calendar and I don't feel like I should donate any more than I do.
Muskies Inc to me wastes a lot of money ...the calendar is just one of the things they could do differently to divert more money to stocking imho.
