| My teenage son wants really bad to catch one more fish this fall. Where would you go if you just wanted to catch one more muskie before freeze-up? Size doesn't really matter. Baits? Need a place within an hour or two of Brainerd.
I really want to put the boat away but he can't bring himself to quit until he gets one more. Thanks in advance for the help! |

| get in your truck, drive to lake st. claire or chautauqua...you wont find any more muskies per acre of lake than those 2 |

| Geez I would love to go to St. Clair but we are talking about way too much of a commitment of time and cash. No doubt about it you are right about the numbers but how about something more realistic for a day-trip over thanksgiving break from school? |

| You have a lot of options in that area. For shear numbers look at Baby Lake in the Longville area, I've never fished it in the fall but I know there are lots of mid-30 inch fish in there. My personal choice would be hire a quality guide for a day on mille lacs, you got a shot at sticking a pig there. |

| My son spent the whole weekend on Baby. Saw about 9, lost a mid-30's and caught a 27 and a 29. He also spent a couple days on Little Boy this month. One day on Alexander. I wish I had the time to go wtih him but this is a crazy month for me.
Mille lacs has been the dead sea from my experience and others I have talked to this fall. If you know of someone who has some consistency going on the big pond I would like to hear about it. I would entertain hiring a guide for him if it was a high percentage deal. He has really put his time in this fall in all kinds of weather and I would sure like to see him rewarded for his efforts. |

| i spent a lot of time on alexander in 2009 and 2010 since i live about 15 miles from the lake. This summer i switched my efforts more towards mille lacs and by the end of the summer there wasn't even a thought of going back to alex even with the shorter drive. Succes was so much higher on Mille Lacs and fishing without the ridiculous milfoil line was much more enjoyabl. Mille lacs is in now way a dead sea. I haven't been there since august but I know guys having success now by trolling large cranks after dark or throwing big rubber. Reorts have told me the ciscoes are up shallow spawning now so when you find them you find the muskies. And big ones... can't even compare them to the fish in other local lakes. I don't know if you could get an opening with Jason Hammernick but he is always putting big fish in the boat in fall.
Your report from baby sounds pretty typical. It's a lake with a great chance at boating a fish but they are just small. |

| We have caught quite a few out of baby in the last ten years. Alex not so much, always see a lot fo fish but never really figured it out I guess. The milfoil has really made it harder to fish but the fish are still there. Everyone I called about Mille Lacs told me the same story... dead. We spent three evenings and nights there on the October full moon and saw two fish. I called two part time guides I know about Mille Lacs and they both told me there was nothing happening and even one of the full time guides had hung it up for the year. I guess I am getting mixed signals. |

| Yeah baby is a great lake for numbers so that would be a choice if your lookimg to put 1 last fish in the boat this year. We always seem to get something going there. |
