Hit the northern lakes and get in line. Smaller ( 6 inch) gliders/cranks have been good to me up there. Haven't been out there much since the shad moved in. It might be a whole new ball game?

We've been up there a few times the last couple weeks Jerk baits were the only thing that have been moving fish for us. We fished Channel,Catherine & Marie. There are a bunch of shad up shallow when the sun is out other wise the bait fish seemed to be more spread out. We moved our fish around the weed edges & weeds ares still plenty green in many areas. Water temps were 50-53 degrees. We had 3 pick-ups & drops dragging suckers. Fish are there but very lazy for some reason? Water is clearer on Channel & Catherine about 2'-3' visibility.

The chain has been a rough sucker bite the past few years. I remember having multiple fish days from 2000-2003. Theoretical are far better waters to go if looking for action on Suckers. Jump in line on Pewaukee and you almost always have a few shots.
Current slow Conditions on the chain can be attributed to the draw down as well as the fact that after turnover it has always been hit or miss out there. I'm Not saying you can't catch a fish or 2, Just that with time winding down I'd rather do my fishing elsewhere. Tournament out there this weekend be interesting to see how many fish caught. Good luck

I was on the chain wednesday. No luck.

Is it pretty much a waste of time throwing a 10 inch kickin' minnow of this body of water? I was throwing a pearl 10 incher thinking maybe I'd be better off with a 6 inch (don't have one).

Also, is it time to put down the blade baits with the temps in the lower 50's?

There was a piggy caught out there on Sunday. 50 3/4 and fat as sin. Saw the pics on another sight. Not sure of the catch details, but it looked like it came on Channel.

It was released. I read on FRV site that the angler didn't catch the fish where the picture was taken. But he called his wife transported the fish to the Thirsty Turtle where she could get pictures of the monster. Than he loaded it back in the livewell and drove it to where it was caught and released it.

Tuffdaddy, get ready for the hate mail from the "locals" who think the Chain is some sort of secret. Anyways, the guy who caught it is one who puts in the time. Well done RS.

Hey Joe, no worries there. Hopefully I have somewhat thick skin. Very nice Chain fish. It's funny as you hear reports on various lakes of how slow fishing is, yet there are lots of fish getting caught this year, just not advertised (up by us as well). Hopefully I can put a similar specimen in the boat today (not on the chain though).

Put down the bucktails and start slowrolling spinnerbaits.

I was on the two most northernly lakes and the amount of Gizzard Shad was amazing. I was floating suckers and casting big rubber but not one sniff. Is the shad killing the sucker bite?

Anybody interested in learning this body better this year and putting some skis in the boat feel free to message me. I have been fishing this body of water for over 25 years and feel confident that I can help some of you put more fish in the boat. -Chris

The shad wont hurt the sucker bite at all , they will just make those muskies a lot fatter

The Chain has never been a fast sucker bite, but you never know when a big heavy will take one.
