Location: Ontario | I think mine's a B but I could be wrong. Push button disengage, anyway. It needs a better handle for casting/reeling. Just the knob, specifically. It's the wood one. With a trindad-type handle it would be nicer for cranking. The reel is a load, large and heavy, but very smooth and not at all unpleasant for me to use all day, and I palm my all reels. The handle knob kind of makes it tougher for fishing bucktails, but no doubt it devours the line pretty good. I have mine on a 9'0 TI rod and its really nice for megaDs, pounders, large wood jerkbaits like 12in Suicks and rolling double 13s. Last season I had it on the 7'9 xxh Premier and used it for all my wooden jerkbaits, sledges and rubber. It's a solid trolling reel also, but I've always found Calcutta clickers to be really quiet compared to 7000s, SeaLines etc. With a handle upgrade it would be a nice reels for cranking bucktails all day if you don't mind trading off the size and weight for solid guts. Baldy or bn mentioned you can easily upgrade the handle over the summer if I'm not mistaken. I'd buy another if one came along, for sure. Picking up a 300 Curado or Winch after using that monster is kind of shocking, but sometimes I really enjoy beating on fish with the heavy hitter stuff too. It's a nasty combo on that 7'9 xxh for jerkbait fishing. The drag's good, too. The 700 was the first shimano muskie reel I put into the lineup and switched over three more within a year, I was Garcia across the board for years before. My opinion is that Shimano's fit/finish and tooling is just that much tighter than most others. I'd say the 700 is a heavy duty reel for heavy duty line and baits/techniques that will take it and stand up well. | |
