Location: Germantown, WI | I did a search and couldn't find anything specific to my question on this forum. Therefore my question is who would you guys recommend for a day of guiding on the manitowish chain of lakes? Probably a multi-species day as i'm taking my father in law and it is a gift to him(he is more of a walleye/smallmouth fisherman).
Who knows this chain really well... and also is a good guy/fun to spend 8-10 hours with in a boat?
Thanks in advance for the replies!

| Hi Dward,
Russ Sleight is a great guide on the Manitowish Chain that is a lot of fun to fish with as well. You won't find anybody that knows the chain any better as well as many other Vilas County lakes. He is also a USCG Master Captain with a great boat for fishing Lake Superior as well. His phone number is (715) 476-2966. I highly recommend Russ.

Location: minocqua, wi. | you can see if Mark Lijewski or Neill Barnett would be available ... i believe they are both guiding off and on. both are consistent on that water and worth it if you can book them. |

| You should track down John Johanes - don't think he guides but I don't think anyone has caught more quality fish then him out there over the last 10 years. Maybe if throw a $ amount at him he will take you out. He's on these boards at times. |

| Johannes? Really? Doug Smith, Neil, Joey Rozanski and a few others put a lot more in the net out there. The poster said multi species. Doubt JJ would have a clue how or where to catch an eye or smally. I'd go w Doug Smith. |

Location: Contrarian Island | for a more multi species guide I think Doug Smith would be a good option...I would imagine Neil could put anyone on all sorts of fish out there too as he knows it very well ...

| Too funny. I retired from fishing. Love how "Slimm" said Joey Rozanski, did you know we are about as good friends as can be and spend a ton of time in the boat together? There is no way Joey or I would guide on the chain - no way. Yep, I know him well enough to say that for him. Actually called him when I saw this thread and we both had a good laugh. The Mani Chain is overhyped, seriously. The masses follow where others are catching fish and posting pictures. Actually some who posted in this thread like to do that. 5 years ago there was noone out there in the fall, after a couple trips and several mistakes throwing pictures on the "boards" and whalla, boats all over the place out there. Actually heard that someone who posted on this thread went out with pictures that he printed from the web to find exact sposts we were catching fish - unreal and lame. Post some pictures of suspendos during certain times of year and whalla, boats everywhere. Turned me off to the point where I have only fished the chain twice in the last two years. Guides and people that follow the hot bite have ruined this sport. Mods/clones - this is your prompt to pull the thread and for others to start bashing. #truth

Location: Germantown, WI | Thanks to everyone who had a recommendation for me. And wow, sorry someone had mentioned your name Johannes. all i wanted was an idea of who was knowledgable on this body of water to show myself and my father in law a good time on a chain i've never been to.... (i've fished vilas county for years and have never hired a guide, thought i would try something new) and you want this thread pulled??? I'm confused!

| No boats on THE Manitowish chain in the fall until 5 years ago? Been fishing it since 1976 and there are always boats. Somebody needs their eyes or head examined. Or both. |

| 8-10 or so years ago JJ and co was pimping some of us who fished the chain through the 90's. Apparently the general Musky fishing community missed the memo that they now own rights to that water. If he only knew how many people were fishing suspendos out there in summer and yes, fall 25 years ago and more. Remember the backtrolling days? Didn't think so. That place sees no more pressure than it did during its resurgence then.
You might check with Paul Klein too. He learned that place from a couple tight lipped suspendo fishing buddies of mine and has been a very consistant guide out there.

| a simple check of the Muskies Inc lunge log shows 100s of fish registered from the lakes on the Mani Chain in oct and nov before prior 2005. so there must have been someone out there before JJ arrived on the scene. |

| i second the recommendation of Paul Klein. we hired him for a couple days last fall and those 2 days were a Master Class in fishing "out there" for suspended fish, including on some of the Mani Chain lakes. this time of year he's usually switched over to duck hunting, but i'd contact him anyway. Location: SE Wisconsin | Pretty manly coming on here and taking jabs at someone under "guest"... What are you, 4 foot tall and pee sitting down? To the inquirer, if I were to call out a single name for you to look up, Neil Barnett, hands down... I'd love to spend a day in the boat with him to learn how he does what he does. I've fished competatively against him for 5 years now and he's amongst the top ten consistently, and more often than not, top three. He knows how to get it done on any water, but he's from Presque Isle and I believe he works right on the chain. If there's a boat I'd like to fish out of and a brain I'd like to pick, it's his. |

Location: North/Central WI | Neil is a good friend and I have never heard of him guiding before. He pretty much just keeps to himself and catches lots of big fish while doing so. I'm sure he would be happy to give you some pointers if you talk to him at Greers during the summer, but I believe all of his fishing time is either tournaments or fun fishing with friends. If you want a true multi-species guide for the chain, I would call Townline Sports and book a day with Rick McClellan. Rick's dad was Bob McClellan, one of the most famous walleye guides in that area. Rick grew up fishing the chain and is an excellent walleye fisherman who has no problems catching muskies. He has placed in the Mani WMT/Pro-Mac more than once and I have witnessed his clients catch nice muskies on several occasions. |

Location: Brookfield, WI | Nate's correct on this one and Neil doesn't do any personal guiding but will help point anybody in the right direction. I was just up in Canada fishing with him a couple weeks ago and he's now off bow hunting for awhile anyways. |

Location: mad chain | Doug Smith 715-356-1198 knows the chain as well as anyone. If you are looking for big fish he is the man!!!! Doug also is dialed in on walleyes and smallies on the chain.
