Other than catching Muskies...

Other than catching Muskies what is it about Muskie fishing you like best? Is it the boats/motors, the equipment-rods reels, the lures, the electronics, the new places to chase Muskies, the people involved in the sport, or is it the abuse you inflict upon yourself?

I like the lures and lure making and the techniques for improving the lures.

I really like the lures. I love watching a bucktail coming through the water and just imagining a 50 incher nailing it.

The challenge of it all. Not everyone can, or will fish for the fish we all dream about. I trully love the hunt.

I agree with Muskyone. It is the hunt that is what makes the "payoff" so well worth it. being with good company makes it that much better but getting out alone can also be a great experience. And as for Ranger..... thank god you didnt use the word love. [:0]

The places the fish inhabit. It's what makes those fishless days worthwhile!

I'm with Muskyone the challenge plus all the great folks I get to meet that enjoy the challenge as well

I like the challenge and the reward...
I'm a gadgit freak so I love the boats/tackle etc.
I think most of all I enjoy being on the water away from the hustle and bustle and of course the cameraderie between fishing partners...

And I love the smell of muskies...[]

For me musky fishing everything you listed plus. If you take away the big baits cool boats or the great people it woulden't be the sport that it is.

I like musky fishing and everything associated with it. The challenge of it all, meeting fellow musky hunters, sport shows, working a lure, trolling, researching, experimenting, making lures, trading baits, chat rooms, message boards, swap meets, making fun of shep and luke_chinewalker and putting it all together to catch a fish. What's not to like?[:p]

The thing I enjoy most is being outdoors and enjoying all of nature. Even if there is no muskie present, there will always be eagles, loons, ducks, etc. Nothing feels better than looking around and seeing things as they naturally are.

Fishing has always settled out the frustrations of life for me. Muskie Fishing seemed to be the supreme challenge for big fresh water fish, so that became a passion. About the only thing I find to come even close is bow hunting, and that sport has a very short season.[;)]

The thrill of the hunt and never knowing when it's going to happen.

Also the respect of the sport and the fish.

I love the fact that they follow. Nobody but muskie fishermen ever talk about....."Did you see any?"
It's the nature of the beast that I love. They let us know that they are there even when we don't catch 'em.

For me it's the thrill of the hunt!
Like bowhunting, seeing but not always catching keeps me coming back for more![:p] [:p]

Muskie fishermen definately have the coolest toys! No bass fisherman in his right mind (!!??) would buy some of the weird looking baits you all have in your boxes; funny that the bass hit those, too!
Muskie fishermen are not normal. By no stretch of the word. I like that, too; normal's over-rated and boring. m[]

MuskieFirst Field Editor, Mike Hoen (aka muskyone) summed it all up in so very few words. That is indeed what it's all about. Doing battle with a truly worthy adversary.

There is nothing like that slow head shake of a big muskie before she figures out she's in trouble.[:0] [:p]

I'm with Beaver. If they didn't follow it just wouldn't be the same. There is something special about a big fish next to the boat and 1/2" behind your lure.

Oh, they are fun to catch too.
