the mike hulbert rods are really nice too, 9' solid 1 piece rod if you don't want a telescopic rod. I can throw everything from showgirls to pounders also.

Black river makes a pretty stout rod. I fished mine all weekend with large jerkbaits and it worked well. The XH Tackle Industries rod is very nice, but it is NOT stiff. At least mine isn't, it's pretty soft for an XH rod. Not that i think it's bad, just not what i am used to with a XH rod. I have the 9' one piece NON tele rod.

Thats true, I'm pretty sure that St. Croix will give you credit up to a certain amount for a new rod with a broken one. If not, Black River 8'6" XH!

If you're looking for a rod to throw Pounders I would get an XXH Tackle Industries. An XH will handle them, but if you're serious about throwing really big plastics the XXH is the way to go. The XH is a much better Mag Dawg rod.

Okuma EVx's are good too. I believe most people use the 8'6" XXH for Pounders, but don't hold me to that. I think the 9'3" XH can throw Pounders, but it is a little light for regular use. I'm just going off what I read months ago, not experience with Okuma rods. But they are very nice.

Okuma EVx 8'6'' XXH for pounders and rippin big cranks, and the Okuma EVx 8'6'' XH for everything else. I love the telescoping feature on these rods. I would like to try throwing Hulbert's 9 footer to see how it compares.

I myself would not recommend the 8'6 XXH for pounders. I broke not only mine, but Slamr's as well. I throw the 9'3 XH for pounders and Dbl 10's now.

Tackle Industries makes one-piece 9' rods as well. XXH, XH, and MH.

Your rod should have a 5 yr warranty.

It's a Premiere? 1-2 years old if it's an 8' 6", they came out last year I think?

Would assume you'd get a new one, just have to pay for shipping.

Just to add, my TI rods are still on special for $120. Don't worry, I doubt I will ever take them up to full retail If you do get one, please buy from one of my retailers if you can. Don't worry if they do not have the rod you want in stock. You can still buy through them and then I can drop ship for anyone of the below musky shops! I have adjusted my wholesale prices for them and they all have the $120 special on my rods too.

Forgot to send out a big thanks for all the helpful advice. Bob at Joe's sporting goods mailed the rod into St. Croix yesterday. We'll see what they come back with.
If they don't replace it, I'll probably switch to TI rods. I've used St. Croix rods for 21yrs.

I bet they will replace it. I brought a triumph into bass pro a few weeks back. it cracked in half due to my stupidity. it was probably 3 years old. I didn't have the receipt. bass pro found the transaction and told me to get a new one. no questions asked. the premier has the same warranty as the triumph i'm pretty sure and the avid on up are lifetime. i don't think you'll have a problem.

The Okuma 8'6 XH will throw mag dawgs okay, however the 9'3 XH throws them very well, along with dbl 10's, cranks, pounders, minnow baits, and topwaters. The 8'6 XH, will throw cranks, minnowbaits, topwaters, and other bucktails besides 10's very will, and you can definitely throw mag dawgs with them as well.

first id look at getting your croix replaced, they're usually good for it. couldnt go wrong with a musky innovations or a okuma evx though, either. James at tackle industries makes a quality rod too, had my hands on them.

If I were in your shoes I would see what St. Croix would do. If you are buying a new rod, I would strongly recommend you check out the Tackle Industries rods. I bought an 9 'XH Telescopic split grip and it is almost the only rod I used this year - seriously! It does very well with Cowgirls. Casts them well and doesn't load up like crazy in the 8. Casts Mag Dawgs or Hard Heads great, and even does a very good job of lobbing Pounders. I think next year I will buy one of his solid 9' XXH rods to really launch and rip Pounders.

I've used more expensive rods, and really feel like the TI rods are the best I've used. Love the one I have.

I have another shipment of rods coming in towards the end of the month, now selling my true 9 ft. rods for $100.00 plus shipping. These are not XH but just a Heavy, yet were designed to bomb pounders as well as other big blades and pretty much any other baits you want. Check them out!

Ti xxh are as heavy as you will ever need for pounders , He told me that he designed them for throwing 2lb swimbaits !!!!!! TI rods are as good as you will find for $120 and he is a really super guy do deal with . Ti rods are the best value in the industry hands down !

I agree with most. I bought a TI 9' XH tele rod earlier in the summer and have really liked it for a pretty much every lure I threw. Didn't throw pounders with it, would probably need the xxh. I will be adding more TI rods to my arsenal soon though.

Have two XXH Tackle Industries rod that I have used way more than the custom Predator... Basically I use the XXH for everything except WTD topwaters and gliders/jerkbaits... I wouldnt trade anything for my two XXH rods... absolutely LOVE them... James really outdid himself with his rods and you cant beat the price he has them selling for!!! I even used them for my recent sucker fishing outing and got 3 muskies (40, 43, and 44) in the net... Am looking forward for James to come out with live bait rods that would be perfect for falltime sucker fishing...
