Subject: Topwater heat shrink?


Whats everyone's preference for rear hooks on prop style topwaters as far as heat shrink or no heat shrink?

Unless the lure design counts on it to prevent fouling the tail prop (ex topraider), I would advise against it. Tends to be more trouble than it is worth when it comes to storing the lure in tubes.

Location: Madison WI		I heat shrink all my topwater prop baits that would normally have the back hook hanging free. Works way better for nippers.

i heat shrink most of mine as well. I feel it leaves the hook out there for short strikes etc... and seem to have better hook up.

I use a heat gun but most people don't have one so a lighter will work just as good. You just need to be careful.

Location: Lebanon,Mo		They make a grill type lighter that is like a mini torch that will fit in a Plano box,has worked well for me.Windproof as well..

i just use a propane torch. Same as what you would use to sweat copper pipes. Just a few touch's shrinks it without buring. But a lighter works too. Just kind of wave it underneath.
