When I was in the boat dealer this spring, a 1998 Evinrude 15 in good working order with minimal cosmetic damage was for sale for 650 including the original gas tank. I would say 900 is high. (OMC 9.9 and 15 are the same block for pricing)

tie a rope around it and use it as an anchor ... depending on weight you can just multiply the scrap value rate and get a pretty quick answer.

oh, and in-case you're wondering ... my comments come from experience with that vintage motor. $900.00 buys a whole lot more motor than that thing is.

Less than 1/3 of that amount, and Sled has it right.

Good used OMC/Merc 9.9's are fairly easy to find. Keep shopping!

Your final offer should be you get the motor and $300 from the seller. And you still might not be getting the better end of the deal.

Nope. They were originally built in the old Chrysler facility and the design didn't change much when Brunswick bought the brand. For all intents and purposes, the Force is a better built Chrysler.

'About the company:
The Force Outboard brand was born in the early 1980's when US Marine, the parent company of Bayliner Boats, purchased the old Chrysler Outboard factory and tooling located in Hartford, Wisconsin. Bayliner was the first nationwide company to introduce packaged outboard rigs in which the outboard motor, the boat and a trailer were sold as a single item. Arriving at dealerships fully assembled, these packages were great timesavers for dealers that previously had to custom rig bare hulls with specific engines and accessories chosen by the boats' buyers. Although Force Outboards lacked the technological sophistication of the major outboard brands, their price advantage was significant. Thousands of families discovered their love for boating through these inexpensive Bayliner entry-level outboard boats. In the mid-1980's US Marine was acquired by industry giant Brunswick Corporation (Mercury, Mercruiser, Sea Ray, etc.). The Force Outboard brand quickly benefited from the resources of its big brother Mercury, and all production was soon moved to Mercury's plants. Force Outboards became available on boat brands other Bayliner at dealerships nationwide. The changing marketplace, diminished price advantages and pending government regulations resulted in the decision to discontinue the Force brand in 1999. Parts and service have become more and more difficult for Force owners to find since then. '

What is it worth? I'm not sure. What's the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns?

i had a early 80's small chrysler/force that was a disaster. also had an early 90's vintage 70hp that was fantastic but the powerhead did blow on it after 4 seasons use on my duck boat. based on the price, the vintage, the market i think there has been very accurate information provided on the op's question.

if he gave me $900.00 cash i'd probably let him have my 15hp '94 merc that is a fantastic motor ... i'd use it to upgrade to a quieter 4-stroke. lots of folks in my shoes and buying a small hp long-shaft motor is a good place to be right now.

who ever that is trying to get that number out of that motor ... is going to steal from someone who is uninformed.

Had a 35 HP Force that came on my boat. I would NEVER own a Force again. Hard to find the parts & if you do find them they cost an arm & a leg.

Guess I was lucky. I owned a mid-80's 15 HP Force. Started easy (2nd pull -every time - whether I had run it that day or even after being stored over winter), never had an issue (after I replaced the stock prop), and sold it without major effort after I bought my first glass boat (roughly 1990). Old technology, but easy to maintain. No idea about parts availability now.

Doesn't Force actually descend from West Bend - pre-Chrysler?
