Someone found this "The New Kant Lash Reel Adapter" at an estate sale. She paid 25cents for it. Mint condition box and all, never used. The instructions say it is not a brake, but a governor. Made by Continental Sporting Equipment Co. 627 Grove St. Evanston, IL. No date on it. Will send images later. Anybody know anything about it?

Go here:-

Pg 62, top right, titled "stops back lash"
Zoom in a lot and you will see it on a reel in a diagram.
My bet is that it involves magnets which act as a governor.
Look at the rest of the fishing stuff as well...the 50's & 60's were the gizmo decades.

-and here pg 76 top rt:- http://tinyurl.com/3glvaxc
Looking at it again, it's also possible that 2 metal "shoes" slid out from a retainer when the speed of the direct drive handle increased and the speed was reduced or controlled.
(Since I can't fish today I decided that posting arcane trivia is the next best thing LOL)

Thank you "Old Guy" that is it! Box and all, very cool. I think it needs a good home in an antique collection! Dutchman
