I had posted this question on another board but now cannot find it so I will repost it here and apologize to anyone that may have responded to the question somewhere else and ask for their advice again.
Have any of you used drift socks musky fishing? Do any of you still use them? What are your opinions on them? Do they become a hassle that tke away from fishing or are they an indispensable tool? Any problems that a person should know about before buying/use them for the first time? Any problems with landing fish or spooking fish? Thank you for your time and thoughts.

David:

This is the first year that I have used a drift sock. I really like them for some puposes. I use them a lot for fishing main lake basins and mid-lake humps on really windy days. They are also very useful when you need to slow down your drift just a little bit more to work slow moving baits such as some jerk baits. I haven't had any muskies get spooked by it. Actually I have 3 nice sized fish follow the sock on different occasions. Not really sure why. I'm a little hesitant to use it while night fishing, but usually the wind calms down some around dark. Overall, I believe it was a good investment and use it whenever the oportunity presents itself.

Dave,

The drift sock is a valuable tool when the winds start blowing hard. I use a sock all the time when the winds kick up, it lets me slow down and work a spot the way I want to. I never had any problems with spooking fish.
Get one that will collapse in the water so you can bring it in easier. Before I bought my sock, I used to use a five gallon bucket, when the wind was blowing hard you would need two buckets!!![:0]

Good luck!!!!

Thanks guys! I have been having trouble trying to maintain a slow enough drift on windy days by biting the trolling motor into the wind to work some jerkbaits. I didn't want to go out and purchase one without getting some opinions and thoughts from people with experince using them,I will be ordering a drift sock today. Thanks again!
