Has anyone ever seen a muskie jumping for no particular reason? Last weekend I saw a small 30 inch or so fish jump 4 times in a row. It came completely out of the water and on the last jump it traveled about 10 feet at about 2 feet high. I had just caught a 40 incher a few minutes before that in the exact same spot. Seemed pretty odd to me. Could it be possible that a large fish was chasing it? Needless to say a made quite a few cast in there.

Sometimes they jump to dislodge things. Could have been a fish that was hooked and it was trying to lose the bait or even have something that it eat that it could not digest and trying to get rid of that. Who knows????? It might be easier to figure women than to figure why they are jumping. Naw, i was just messing with ya about figuring out women.

I have seen pike absolutely launch themselves when they come up to hit surfacing baitfish.

I heard splash , looked, and saw him jump in a straight line 3 more times. It looked like how a dolphin jumps. I think it was trying to get away from something. Either that or it was just for fun!

i just saw this a few weeks ago as well up on leech. i was talking to another boat and saw a boil ten yards out from me a couple seconds later the guy in the other boat set the hook on a fish. and i turned to tell my boat partner and straight behind the boat i saw a muskie swimming just like a dolphin. gave 2 leaps and was moving incredibly fast! some little short phenomena? 3 fish showing themselves or eating within 5 seconds of each other and within 70 or 80 yards of each other/

i saw a muskie stick its head out of the water like a dog. it was swimming with its head out of the water for about 10 seconds and making a noise, than splashed away.

Tiger muskies swim with their head out of the water fairly often on one lake I fish. I have no idea what they are doing. They must mot be able to see very well when they do this, because I know people that have had them swim into their boat.
