Just moved to the area this thurs... and figured I would start fishing Okauchee, but I'm in Port Wash and wondering whats closer. I have heard of Random lake and thats about it. Probably won't get too crazy on Pewaukee. I run a yearly tournamnet in Stevens point, WI ,occasionally do some charity guiding and chase these things constantly. Where i'm from we fish the WI river, so this lake thing should be something new.
I'm here for 4 years, due to my girlfriend and her pharmacy school, so the my workshop is mostly put away, and I'm fiening to get out...if anyone sees this and has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.
Also, who runs musky leagues in the Mil area and how can I check it out?
Thanks,
Himay

Okauchee is a tough nut to crack as it is clear and deep. This time of year look for suspended bait and fish around them. Pewaukee is a bit easier to fish-right now trolling is king with small cranks (DT-16s and the like) Oconomowoc is like Okauchee. Joel Michel is your guide of choice on Okauchee and Mike Koepp know Pewaukee like the back of his hand.

As far as the SE WI Muskie League scroll down to the Muskie Club Forum tab on the home page and there is a posting. The author is ESOX2Hart.

Tons of guides in the area for Oconomowoc, Pewaukee and Okauchee. I've fished with Joel and Mike. They are great. You will learn a lot from them. Another name, though, is Ben Kueng. This guy fishes all those lakes really well and will show you a lot of stuff as well.

My advice to you, though, is temper your enthusiasm for a while. I moved to Milwaukee from Eagle River. It is different fishing down here. Much more traffic and tons more people on the water. So, you have to fish differently than you do up north. And sometimes you gotta know that it just isn't worth it to go out on a nice Saturday afternoon in July.

I've found that it is great to fish for other species during the summer. You may want to look at fishing Delavan for bass and gills, Nagawicka for smallies and the Milwaukee harbor for trout. If you only pound for muskies down here, you will find that July and August can be brutal. You could burn yourself out before the fall comes.

Good luck!
