jointed versus straight model depthraiders

when do you choose one over the other?

I have been using the jointed one for trolling and casting in clear water but I read in Joe Bucher's "Crankbait Secrets" that he will choose a straight model in clear water. I'm getting some straight models soon so I will try those in the same lakes and see what the results are.

I like the jointed ones for slower presentations. I generally only slow troll a jointed bait, my dad likes to cast them but I like straight models better and impart acion myself. Just my style.

todd, how do you fish the straight ones? I would use a pull/rise retrieve or bump cover with it.

I much prefer the jointed models as Joe Bucher once told me a jointed crankbait gives the illusion of speed which means you can work it slower but it appears to be moving faster

Divani,

I fish the straight model Depth Raiders quite a bit, and I do similar to what you are thinking of. They work great for "crunching" the bottom to impart strikes, and any other structure around. The straights are a lot better for "twitching", and they are great above the weed tops.

Divani, I twitch and rip the straight model ones although I have not casted since labor day, been trolling them.

is there a certain water depth where you'll take out the depthraider? Say at 5 feet deep or over?

I use the Depth Raider anywhere from 2-60+ feet. Like any other crank bait it works anywhere there is water!

how can you keep it clear from the bottom in two feet of water?? I certainly couldn't do it with the jointed ones I have. Or are floaters more buoyant?
