I'm five hours from each Webster Lake, Ind., Lake St. Clair and the Tahquamenon River and want to make a one-day casting trip in my own boat in September. Which would you suggest and why?

I'll sacrifice some numbers for a chance at a 45" fish.

St Clair, is a no brainer out of those three. More fish over 45 per acre than Webster for sure and I'm not sure the Tahq. has any fish over 45 (maybe a couple).

I live 10 minutes from Webster, and 4 hours from LSC.  I just bought a boat that is overkill for Webster so that I am more comfortable on LSC.  That said, a lot depends upon your boat and knowledge of the area.  LSC can be intimidating due to size, boat traffic, weather, etc.  Webster can be fished in almost any conditions, and at 500+ acres, can be "learned" quickly.  If this is your first trip to new water, why not hire a guide?  In my view, guides are well worth the investment.

I went to LSC with a guide this spring. Fished the channels and anchor bay a little. I have an 18-foot Lund I run on Lake Michigan, but I wasn't impressed with that area of St. Clair at that time. Also wondering if the seasonal migrations on St. Clair would be working with me or against me on the Michigan side in the fall.
