Thanks for your help.

I would just try different retrieves and see what the fish want. I usually like a fast retrieve as I am looking for active fish, but sometimes a slower retrieve works better. If you are fishing with someone else have one person burn them and the other go slower.

I've caught musky's on Eagle burning with a trinidad....only in the weeds though, not on the rock reefs so much, I think when your fishing the reefs and your typically deeper, the steady/slower retrieve seems better. I've had better luck letting the tail get down 4 or 5 feet then making a hard charge towards the surface and into your L turn. just what ive noticed.

Just got back from a week at AML. Generally anything but a really slow retrieve seems to work up there. Most of the guides suggest keeping the speed up as much as you can to jump start followers, but none of them are using high speed reels, either. just normal stuff, Winch, Calcutta TE, etc. I used a TE and did just fine. (Heck, my dad is 73, used a Revo Toro, and he had action and could hardly be described as burning bucktails back in.)

If you have a the gear for it, try burning, but lots of fish get caught on normal retrieves.

thank you guys for the info. Right now i have the winch for blades. I dont have a trinidad but was thinking on getting one. Sounds like a TE would be a better choice though.

I fish eagle a fair amount. In thick weeds i like to burn the buck tails keeping them very high making a ripple on the water ,deeper weeds slower retrieves. in Aug. fish bulldogs rock and weeds

If you get a TE, get a shimano power handle. Makes a big difference fishing bucktails all week long.

Seabass How did you fare on Eagle. We just returned as well and had lots of followers but few biters.
