Subject: Muskie stocking Petition

Please help with this stocking petition. We have some locals here that have started a petition to not have Muskie stocked in our stream so we started one of our own. You see 2 years ago we had a 35 mile stretch of water poisoned which killed all fish, so now they are going to start stocking. just google dunkard creek fish kill to see what happened. Go to following link to help thanks mciever. http://www.petitiononline.com/Dunkard1/petition.html

94. Would be funny if they find out most of their signatures come from MN to stock a stream in WV. I think we should get one going to stock Kabetogama. Perfect lake for them.

Not sure this is such a good idea having people across the country who know nothing about the area and will most likely never fish the creek to determine whether or not muskies should be reintroduced.

If the majority of people who use the creek don't want muskies to be stocked, then I don't believe they should.

You clearly do not understand just how smart muskie fishermen/women are. We know.

I just want to clarify some things since I am the one who started the petition. The WVDNR has stocked the stream for decades and it is their intention to continue to. The petition is just to show support for their plan as there is a small group of uninformed folks who do not want muskie.

We had around 70 signatures before it got to this site so we picked up around 30 from this site. I appreciate the help but am going to ask that unless you fish PA and WV then don't sign it. I would hate to go to the meeting with 80-90 signatures from the locals and 250 from across the country.

Since it is already on here I'm going to attach a summary of this and if you fish Pa and Wv and want to support this please do sign. Dunkard Creek was a real good fishery. Those who have fished it can only hope it will rebound.

As many of you may know, Dunkard Creek, which once was a very productive smallmouth and muskie fishery, was destroyed a few years ago.
The stream has since cleaned up and now has some fish in it that have moved in from the monongahela river.
Whenever there is enough forage base (probably 2 years) the WVDNR plans to continue the muskie stocking program that has been in place for decades.
They will restock smallmouth also if necessary.

There seems to be a group who are opposed to the muskie.
They state reasons such as... muskie have limited the smallmouth population, muskie are not native, and even suggesting a muskie was watching children swimming waiting for an oppurtune meal.
This type of information is false. The smallmouth poulation in Dunkard was good before the fish kill, muskie are native to the Ohio River drainage which the Monongahela and Dunkard are a part of, and I'm not even going to waste time trying to find evidence of human eating muskie.

On August 25th there will be a meeting in Morgantown where the DNR will announce the Dunkard Creek restoration plan.
If you would like to support their efforts to restore the muskie population in Dunkard Creek please consider attending the meeting,
or you can sign an online petition in favor.

Thanks for the consideration,

Mike
