| I tried to enter this information last night but ran into problems. Attached you will find two pictures of my PB muskie caught Saturday August 7, 2011. I caught this fish on a one day fishing trip with my two son's. We spent more time driving than fishing on this trip. The fish was 52.75 " x 25 ". The fish put up a better fight then any of us could have dreamed. We spent over an hour and one half reviving her and making sure she was fully recovered. The best part for me was that I shared the experience with my sons age 26 and 18. I look forward to the day that I am in the boat and each of them beats this fish.

What a head on that muskie....perhaps that is why someone might think it was less than 25 inches girth, as you stated. Congrats....thanks for sharing your PB.
And, you have to be admired for spending the time to revive the muskie. That was a long time. I wonder how many others would spend that amount of time to revive a muskie......way to go.

| Agreed awesome/great fish for your kids to see, but measure look at pictures of other fish before you geuss. Fish in the fall that size don't get that girth unless they are very heavily feeding. Cool story to tell for your kids!! |

That fish easily has a 25" girth. Look at it compared to his hand. Actually, guest may have been right, it looks closer to 26"!!!

| Why can't there be a post with a fish where people, usually more than one, don't have to be a complete jackass behind the keyboard? Give it a rest already. Hardly anyone shares pics anymore because of the comments made by those who know everything and I'm sure are nothing but perfect. Good grief.
That is a helluva fish - that head looks prehistoric! Nicely done with the new PB and sharing the time with your boys, that is awesome. Congrats on a great fish.

| Great, more internet tough guys who hide behind a keyboard...
After viewing half a million pictures of fish on the internet in recent years, by now people should recognize that it is hard to determine the actual size of a fish from a picture. There are too many variables--the size of the person holding the fish, how the fish is held, zoom in/out, how much background, etc. I have my pictures of my own fish that look bigger than they really were and pictures that make the fish look smaller.
That's why I know longer question what someone claims unless it is really ridiculous. I love the guys who will say a fish in a picture is 48 but not 49, has a 24 inch girth but not 25, etc.
I will say this, and I have seen a couple 52 inch fish: the fish in the picture is a big a$$ fish, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. |

IMO the 25" girth on this fish is BS.
52.75 X 25 X 25/ 800 = 41.2 #
I think 52.75 X 22 X 22 / 800 = 31.9 # is more like it.
The easiest way to catch a 40#er is play with the #s until the formula says 40#s!

| Where did the guy say his goal was to catch a 40 pounder? Looks like he caught it, was excited by the catch and measured it.
You want to know what is BS? People questioning someone else's catch who weren't there, and have no idea what the fish is like or how the picture was taken. Once again--it's a joke trying to nitpick someone's fish from a photo.
And I disagree--looks a lot closer to 40 than 30.

25" girth is big.........in fall.... Even on Mille Lacs or V....
Its a nice long fish...... But "I'd guess" he guessed, not measured the girth...
Sorry,
NICE FISH......!

| Why would someone lie about the size of a fish they posted on the internet. Its not like he is in it for the money. i suppose someone will say that the fish is not 52.75" but 49.75". And how in the hell can a pictures on the internet annoy someone. REALLY! Mosquitos annoy me!
Nice fish and congrats. |

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I couldn't have said it better. A 50-inch fish measured around the head is typically in the 20" ballpark. Add a couple of inches because it's pushing 53" in length and has a big melon. GREAT FISH, just not 40#. |

I guess I am lost on just what the "F" you are talking about and how it pertains to this thread in any way, nowhere did the guy say how much the fish weighed. I would think that if he measured the length down to 3/4 of an inch that he probably got a good girth measurement. IMO I say congrats to the lucky angler and as others have stated that fish has a MONSTER head on it! |

| Awesome fish regardless of girth.
The lesson learned here is: when you catch your personal best and want to post pictures, do NOT include a girth measurement. I did not read one person questioning the length.
BTW, if he spent over an hour and a half reviving the fish... chances are he did get a measurement. Whether that number was exaggerated I have no clue nor do I care. If that's the case he's only cheating himself, just like cheating in golf.

Letting something so minor that you are completely disconnected from play such a role in your quality of life is ridiculous.
WHO CARES how big he thinks/says it is?!?!?!?
It isn't like he is entering it a contest and trying to steal your money. He isn't claiming it as some record. He just wanted to share a great experience that he had with his sons and a picture of a great fish. And you have to ruin it for him by whining about one stupid, little insignificant number that may or may not be correct.

Yep because everyone can really tell the girth of this fish with 1 photo that is shot straight on with a horizontal pose, get real! I hope I can catch a 36" tonight so I can post it and say the girth is 30" inches just to see all the guests come out of the woodwork to call me a liar... |

Location: Maple Grove, MN | I agree that the girth appears to be overstated, but the length looks legit for sure. Its a nice fish though and certainly one to be proud of.
In all fairness, it is not always easy to get an accurate girth measurement. Sometimes the fish won't stay still and sometimes the water is rough. And you think the tape is straight around and tight, but it isn't. Been there. Done that.
Holding a 40 lb fish out like that is not easy either. Its no different than holding a 40 lb bag of salt. Just try picking up a 40 lb bag of salt and hold it out in front of you at arms length. Even if a person is strong enough to do it, one usually has to lean back a little to maintain one's balance. When I see someone holding a fish close to them and leaning back a little for balance, then I know that fish was heavy.
It is still an awesome fish though. Probably somewhere between 30 and 35 lbs. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of. |
