| Long time reader, first time poster here.
Anyone having any luck out on Lake Namakagon this year?
I'm up there fishing quite a bit every year as my family owns a cabin in Cable WI and I haven't had too much luck out there this year. Saw one TANKER opening weekend but only managed to put 1 small musky in the boat since then. I've mainly been fishing the weeds. Tried a couple weekends back on the deep weed edges and didn't see a fish all weekend. Nothing going at night either on top of the weed beds. Anyone boating submerged fish in the deeps? How about at night? Trolling?
I'm heading up there the weekend of the AUG 20-21 and for the full week before Labor Day. I'll be sure to post reports for anyone interested.
Side question: Anyone have issues with a navionics chip on Garden lake? Mine shows me off on land somewhere and the second I cross under hwy D it goes back to normal. I don't spend too much time on Garden but if my chip worked properly I prob would. Heard of a couple upper 40 inch fish caught out of their already this year.
When I was up, there wasn't the famous algae bloom yet. Water was relatively clear.

| Yeah the map part for garden lake sucks, actually mine doesn't even show garden as water it looks like land with depth numbers here and there. It can be a tough lake but don't get discouraged. I would think with the water temps reaching somewhere in the mid 70's I would stick to the deep weed edge and even deeper during the day. |

| I've been out on namey a lot this year as usual and haven't done squat. Been putting in long days w/ little to show. Did move a big girl in shallow weeds mid-july and went on the 8 fora few turns but never committed. Early morning seems best for us. Navionics chip on garden does not work. Lakemaster does but not in HD. Will be up this wknd. Will report when I get back. |

| Good to see that im not the only one thinking its been slow out there this year and also happy to hear im not the only one with garden lake map issues.
IDK what it is but the lake seems more frustrating to me this year compared to other years. Thats musky fishing though. Ive never trolled out there but I might try mid day over the deep lake basins next weekend.
Thanks for the input and I will post results from my trips up there if anyone is interested

Location: Smith Creek | Lakemaster works good in Garden, unfortunately lures don't, not this year anyway. I've moved some nice fish in there this year, (lower, middle and upper, Garden sucks this year) they just won't bite. Pontoons and tubers circling don't help. I usually fish deep weed edges, someone should always be throwing big rubber. Nice pike to keep a guy busy till the temps start dropping.

| I was also thinking about headed up there over labor day weekend. The reports don't sound to good. It will be my first time on the water so any other info will help out.

| Don't get me wrong, The lake can be great. It's just not an "action" lake. You need to put time in and more often than not it is worth it. Just hasn't been too friendly to me this year yet. Frustrating as heck but I know whats in there and cant wait to fish it HARD for a week coming up here.
I'll be up there on the 20-21st so I'll post any action I have before I go up for a week.
I'm wondering how trolling and night fishing is out there. Havent done too too much of either and am thinking about trying both next weekend (at least a little)

| I'm headed up to Lake Namakagen for a week beginning 8/21. This lake can be fickle at times but the cooler water temps should help the bite soon. I'll post an update when I return. Blades and Suicks have been good in late summer/early fall and someone should be throwing a topwater. Be sure to check out the shallow slop. |

| Managed to get some good action on namakagon this year. I've always used huge baits on this lake but we had so many bites offs on small pike baits, while going for some action, from muskies right in plain eyesight that we switched it up. Smaller baits absolutely tore it up this year on namy for me. I would suggest a 4 to 5 inch bait and you will be surprised what hammers it. I only saw one pig this year and she was about 48 to 50 inches but she wouldn't commit for anything and eventually just seemed totally uninterested. All my good baits were either yellow/orange or all white. Good luck! |

| Any updates over the past week or so? I was out last week and managed a low 40 inch fish. Curious as to how others have done. Guessing the yearly tradition of the late summer algea bloom is going to take place soon. In my experience its not been a favorable time to fish for musky. Any thoughts? |

| I spent three days on Namakagon last week. Water temp was 72 and no bloom. Fished during the day and raised two tankers on Walleye Hellhound over the weeds. Unfortunately they spooked before I could get them into a figure eight.
A big Northern completely destroyed a 9 inch walleye heli bulldog. |

Location: Hopefully on the water | Fished the 22nd and 23rd out there. Had 2 fish swing and no hooks, saw 3 others. Action was up from years past during this time for myself. dbl blades, bulldawgs (regular size) and top water were what I moved fish on. Weeds and steep breaks were the key for me but still no fish in the boat. |

| I was in Lower and Middle Lake fishing parrallel to the outside weed edge. Just fish the inside turns of the weeds by paying attention to your locator. Good luck in October. |

| I do not know where you guys are coming from on this rant about namakagon being slow this year. As a resident of this lake I can tell you this is a golden fishery, between my father and I we boated 13 muskies this year with the biggest being 49 and the smallest being a 28 inch tiger. Some people get frustrated with this lake because it takes years to know the lake well enough to consistently catch trophy fish, but if you put the time in you will be rewarded. Cant wait till next season to get after them again. |

| Hi. I jst read your comment about some postings from last years musky fisherman. I like what you said. A person needs to get to know a lake. My son and I are coming to lk nem this monday 8/6 and 7 2012. I was going to hire a guide to jst show us around th lake to get familier. Instead I thought I would contact you to see if you would be interested in th job. It pays well... lunch or supper... restaraunt wud be your choice. Significant other included. I am also planning a two day trip th 5th and 6th of sep. and a late fall. I want to get to know th lake as I plan to make it a vacation getaway for my son and I. I love musky fishing. Location: Indiana & Wisconsin | Just spent last week fishing on Namakagon, bass fishing that is...Lowest water temp we could find was 78 degrees one morning. Afternoon temps up over 80, so we left the muskys alone. Really looking forward to Fall! |
