Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Nothing wrong with a Boga if it's properly used. The Boga Grip is capable of pivoting 360 degrees. The human hand is not. If a person damages a fish with a Boga grip, that person probably would have dropped the fish without the tool.
I personally don't use one, and recommend learning how to handle a Muskie without tools or fear of dropping the fish, but for folks who are inexperienced and not likely to catch enough toothy critters to become accustomed to holding them, it's a reasonable tool. trick is to hold the fish in the center of the body, just like when I have my thumb pinning up the gill plate to my index finger...not a problem if one isn't trying to lift the fish either with one hand...or the Boga. |

Yup, just like a of other devices in fishing its fine if used right. For some it might be best if it keeps one from dropping a fish. I have seen too many people that are way too afraid and timid to grab the fish properly and if a Boga helps that then great.
Still way too hot around here (N. Indiana) to safely musky fish. |

I disagree. I've seen a muskie damage itself irreparably, and there's nothing the angler could have done differently besides NOT use the Boga. Your fingers, hands and wrists can bend with the fish and GIVE when there's too much pressure on their jaw, whereas the Boga grips don't allow the fish to twist and turn if they choose too flip out.
Back to the August fish picture thread... nice fish guys. |

| I use a boga to control the fish in the water and net while unhooking. I never lift it with the boga.
It has shortened my release time greatly and I won't likely get a 6/0 hook in my forearm again. That hurt! |

| I boated another fish this morning 545am on the Plopper. Missed a chance on one at 500am just not enough room to work her. I had a few follows on Swimming Joes and we saw 7-10 Skis one of which was a brute!! Down pours and thunder and lighting came at 830am and we fished till 1030 hoping the cold rain would trigger more action...Needless to say we got wet and no more action but a great outing indeed. I was able to get the plopper blowup/hookup on film so if I can figure it out I'll get it on here. Pictures tomorrow.

Also, good when getting hooks out in the net. When used properly it's a useful tool for the muskie fisherman. Here is a nice one this week.

| Fishing with my two son's on a one day fishing trip. Spent more time driving then fishing. (A long trip!) Caught this PB fish (52.75) on a cowgirl. A remarkable fight and fish. In our family, we have a competition and put a Lax mount of the largest fish over the fireplace in the living room. My son's and I think this fish may be over the fireplace for a very, very long time. I hope to catch this fish again in the future.
