| I'm wondering if anyone else has a new 16NA and is having issues with it squealing or grinding during the cast...I had some issues with mine about 1.5 months ago, sent it into Shimano and they told me my spool was non-conforming and replaced it with a brand new reel (took 3 weeks to get one in, but still I eventually got it). Then this past weekend I use the new reel for the first time up at Leech, and about halfway into the first day it starts doing the exact same thing- squealing during casts, and grinding. I realized it has to do with the cast control knob, if I loosen it way up, the noise goes away but even with an educated thumb I still get backlashes, any brake applied at all and the noise returns.
I'm going to give Shimano a call tomorrow, but I'm wondering if I really just got two different lemons, or is there anyone else out there with issues with this reel? |

| I've had the same issue or noise you are describing. I bought my first one 3 years ago and it was making the odd noise only during the retrieve. I returned it and got another one with the same issue? It works fine but the noise is not a feel good. Seems to do it after you've really been working the reel hard for a few hours. If you set it down and let it cool down the noise goes away. I don't know whats causing it but the reels still functions fine. I posted here about the issue last year with not one response from other anglers which i found odd. I've got the 14 but it sounds like the same issue. |

Location: Denmark | I have noticed black oil at the end of the spool shaft, on the side entering the pinion gear on my Trinidad. This normally indicates microscopic metal grinding. So what I would try, is to polish both the inside of the pinion, as well as the spool shaft.

| I contacted Shimano today, they are going to take care of it. Pre-paid shipping label for me to send the reel in, new reel on its way that they are going to send to their diagnostic team first to make sure I won't have any issues. I really hope it works. Also they said they have not had many issues at all with the Trinidads, so maybe those of us with the squealing problem are in the minority. |

What did you expect them to say, just hope you will get what you have paid for in the end. At least I would not expect issues from the Shimano company like those mentioned, regarding that this is the successor of the Golden Trinidads. |
