I have 2003 Ranger 620 with a Merc Opti 225. When I pulled my boat out at the launch I noticed that it seemed like there was more "wiggle" in the motor from left to right as the truck hit the bumps as it came out of the water.

I grabbed the motor on both sides and tried to move iy quickly left and right. It seems like it is slightly looser and there is more play left to right than before. Checked my buddy's 250 xs the same way, and it seems much tighter.

Any ideas on where to begin to check?

Thanks~

Nate

Perhaps the steering bushings are loose or starting to get wore out.
Mine had to be replaced after I couldn't turn very well.

Get it checked out before it's too late.

Check the mounting bolts, too. If they are loose, it's possible to oval out the mounting pattern holes and make it tough to seal them and keep the motor tight and straight.

If it's steering, it will be in your hydraulics on that system. Make sure the fluid level is good, and bled properly, and the ram is tight.

Finally got around to working on it. All the bolts are tight. I noticed that if I grab the fins on the lower unit and rock forward and aft the main shaft has play at the bottom where it should be tight. I'm assuming that the bushings need to be replaced? What would you guys think as far as cost would be because it is out of my league?
